I just got a new crib, and I'm trying to decide if I should stick with Digital Cable or upgrade to a satellite dish.

Anyone had good/bad experiences with satellite or certain satellite companies?

When it rains, I get poor satellite reception. That's the only drawback I can think of.

Digital Cable is cheaper and weather doesn't directly affect reception. Not to mention local channels are included.

One of my buddies just dumped his satellite and went back to cable. His complaints:
    1) LOTS of fees...it actually came up to be about the same price as cable.
    2) Crappy or NO reception when it rains.
    3) No service if something breaks.

you can get a cable modem w/o ordering cable...

TW used to charge $5 extra a month for that setup, but now they don't.

Digital inDemand offers the MLB package, and I think they are bringing the NFL and NBA packages online.

I don't think I can get digital cable where I live. I'm not sure about that, though. We got a satellite. and its a lot better than our previous 30 channel "cable," which includes local news from DENVER, even though I live in TEXAS. The only thing cool about that cable was that they gave us HBO and Showtime for free, despite us taking it off our list thing.

The satellite does have some problems, but I like it.

BTW, is digital cable usually only available in larger cities, EX: Houston, Austin, SA, ect? I'm just don't know if its around here, but I'd imagine no. There would probably have to be a large demand for it to be here.

The NFL package is currently the only one not available on cable. The only thing that really bugs me is that I see NBA league pass...but not the team pass. The team pass shows you all of the games for one team (ie Rockets), and was much cheaper.

How much does the league pass cost per season?

If you're a big college football fan, Direct TV is a no brainer.

Once they add NFL Sunday Ticket as a cable option, I'll drop my dish in a heartbeat.

hey, i know you must know how hard it is to make the hours pass every day while sitting on the couch!

i can only watch so much of people "wannabeeing" teenybopper MTV stars, old NFL films, reruns of old 80s sitcoms, Cita and her CGI world, and CNN Talkback Live before I go crazy! Variety is a must! :D
