So I know I already asked about DSL, but I'm also wanting to get a satellite system. Can those of ya'll in Houston recommend any? I've looked at Direct TV, and I can get some of the local channels but no UPN20 or WB. And both of those are essential. [IMG] I want one that I can get local channels and a lot of sports. I really don't wanna miss any of the Rockets games.
We looked at Best Buy at a Direct TV system that was pretty cool- it had Tivo and was about $399. I'm sure I can find it cheaper, but then I would have to install it myself. Any suggestions on the best system and best service with the best sports?
    Thanks!

Since you are in Houston, I would go with digital cable. Dish Network pretty much blows (we have it) and DirecTV is pricey. Digital cable seems like a better alternative whether you do want NBA League Pass or not.

I have Dish Network and it has no NBA League Pass, therefore it doth truly blow as Jeff put it. But for everything else it gives, it's not a bad deal.

I've been a DirecTV subscriber for over a year now and have been completely satisfied. Granted we don't get UPN20, it's still beats giving money to Warner Cable, whom I have issues with. I get FOX SW (Rocket home games) and I have an antenna for away games.

I hear Dish Network bites and short of dropping a grand or two for a REAL satellite system, I think DTV is best.

    Good Luck,

So do you have a special kind of antenna? On the DTV website they list several kinds. I was leaning towards going that route. Why can't you get UPN20 from your antenna? My parents have digital cable and it is nice, but they can only get one box because they are sold out. I think it is Time Warner and I don't want to use them because they suck. thanks again! [IMG]

I have DirecTV, and I love it. I didn't have any trouble using just a regular set of rabbit ears to get all the local broadcast channels, but I'm in Arlington (getting Dallas channels), so I don't know that it's different with Houston stations in Houston.

(I eventually got the lifeline basic cable package for $10 per month because I got tired of looking at the antennea. It's not very elegant. But the antenna reception was pretty good).

If I lived in Houston, I would get Direct TV, and get basic cable.

It would not cost much more, and you get all locals and all sports packages.

Ali Cat, don't buy one of those "special" antenna's that fit directly onto your satellite... I mean, you can, buy one... but I would recommend just a plain set of rabbit ears, in the house, connected to your TV.

You don't need to spend more than 20 bucks or so...

    good luck

We have tried digital cable in Austin and LA, and have had DTV for about 8 years (I think). DTV is way better that Dig cable. Dig cable sucks - not ready for prime time.

I hate my direct tv, and I'm counting down the days until I move from my apartment complex into one that allows me to have digital cable.

What is wrong with DirecTV exactly, Rocketman95? Care to elaborate?

I have Directv and I love it! Of course I have a little help with a special card that gives me EVERY channel including Local stations in other markets. I get to watch all of the Houston Networks too. I have no complaints with Directv.

I have DirectTV and Dish Network. DirectTV is much better then Dish Network. The clarity is much better on DirectTV. It is slightly more expensive, but worth it.

The "H" card? I'm asking because I'm moving to Austin in about a week or two and am interested in aquiring one of them.
