I'm taking the SAT tomorrow, and also in November, and I'm wondering how much studying everyone did and what their score was.
I took a class, didn't do much for me, I scored 1040 on pre-sat and then a 1090 on my SAT. I was good at math and terrible at verbal. Really bad at the grammar section. My only memory was that I got the word effervescent wrong. In my view, the SAT has had relatively no imact on my life. GRE had relatively no impact either. Some test they gave me measured my percentiles in different subjects and that was more thought provoking in my opinion. I forget what they called that test through.
I didn't study that much but did to the extent that I was prepared for the type of question to be asked. You HAVE to know what to expect. It just makes things go smoother. After that, math is just some formulas to remember and most of english is common sense. I got a 720 on math and a 680 on english. At the end of the day, the test isn't necessarily a measure of anything, but you obviously want to do well to give you options.
hah...you already registered for the November? Don't you want to see how you do on the October test first? I'm taking my final SAT II tomorrow.
You must be my lost twin brother, those are my exact scores as well. Good in math, horrible in verbal...but I've always hated english...err I mean English.
taking the ACT later this month (21st? 24th? eh I'll remember lol) and then the SAT in november going to try to use a SAT review program because the problem is I score in the lower range of 1000-1100 every time mainly due to a lack of math review..... I've never been a particularly bad student in math... making high b's and low a's it's just the subjects like geometry (in particular) have killed me simply because I put them out of my mind as I prepare for the next year so I'm hoping this KAPLAN SAT 2005 or whatever it's called program... will help me when it comes to the recall portion of math.
once upon a time, i got 1600... i don't think i could get that now though. i echo what someone said about how it has little bearing on real life. although i would say it does matter a little. to answer the question though... i probably studied quite a bit. i never took a class, but i bought two of those books. one was Kaplan, and one was like "10 real SATs." what helps the most is practice, i think.
Take testmaster, if you REALLY study like what they told you to, your score can be increase dramatically, I have seen my friends who got 500 points more after taking that class. But I was too lazy to do all that study, so my score only increased about 200 points.
Does anyone know if the Kaplan/Testmasters flashcards actually help? I can make a good grade on the math, 700+, but I'm worried about the English
Well I did some studying for it. I got one of those SAT books and did all the practice tests in there. I ended up with a 1380 (710 math, 670 verbal).
Moderately studied with a couple of friends (mostly hung out more than studied). Worked the night before and went in tired, scored a 1350.
Looking to barter some souls for scores, horned-one? No wonder all those Ha..hverd clubbers look empty.
no sleep, runny nose, too much coffee 1310 a couple months later i took it again. took a kaplan course, got a great night of sleep 1230
One of the things that helped me was a Princton Review CD-ROM study guide thingy. It helps you learn how to take the test the most efficient way, to maximize your score with your level of knowledge. I ran through most of the lessons in about a week, one or two lessons a night. It raised my SAT about 100 points from the first time I took it. I highly recommend something like that. Just the tips and tricks session was worth the $50.
You should practice well beforehand, but don't cram the freaking night before. Just relax and get a good night's sleep.
My mom bought me this software that had several actual tests from previous years. I took a couple of them and did some of the other exercises on the CDs. At the time, it all seemed boring and stupid, but the way the SAT is setup, I am now convinced it really helped me do well. So much of that test is just knowing how to take it, not necessarily containing a bunch of knowledge. I got a 1400.
