Turned on my home PC this morning and within 2 minutes got an error message saying Windows had to reboot. Then it got caught in a loop. Looks like Sasser. I downloaded the patch here at work and will burn it to a CD and bring it home. Anybody else affected by this virus?
Hmm, that sounds like the virus my friends got this weekend. I think I'm ok since I had the latest security updates.
Yes it hit the internet over the weekend. It infected PCs running Win2K or XP that were connected to the internet. You didn't even have to double click on an attachment in an email for it to hit you.
I also read that what happened was that Microsoft released their latest security update, which showed what flaws they were trying to correct which then tips off these virus creating arse holes on where to attack.
Which is the best reason for updating your Windows installation regularly. If you have XP or 2000, it is a good idea to have the Automatic Update feature enabled. I didn't get hit at home or at work due to updated patches, firewalls in both places, and up to date virus scanning software.
A friend of mine got it this weekend as well. Can someone post some information on how to remove it? I am not very computer literate so please make this as harmless as possible. Thanks
Go to Microsoft.com and click the link titled "What to do about the Sasser Virus". Basically you have to turn firewall on, then download and install the patch.
Well, I haven't rebooted my PC yet. Will get home later after work and install Stinger onto my PC. If you guys need Stinger, go to http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger.
Anyone get ClientMan malware? I think I got it from a bittorrent sight. That was a most annoying POS.
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger I wanted to post and I didn't have anything to say so I'm fixing your link.
So if I have just a firewall, I'm ok? I think my virus definitions are ok, I don't know if my windows updates automatically or not.
FYI, Microsoft's fix for this was released about 2-3 weeks ago. Set up automatic updates and you probably wouldn't have been touched by this. Install a firewall as well.
I found a good sight for removing all those annoying "Search" crappola that gets on your PC every now and then. www.PCHell.com I found it will trying to get rid of the most annoying crap of all, the ncase search bug.
not sure firewalls do the trick... he at work, which is behind a firewall, computer seem to be going down all over the place
damn ... fixed several other computers here in my office but for some reason the windows update won't install on my computer any advice????
about the firewall thing, the virus is one that u dont dl or anything, it spreads when your computer is left connected to the interent. A firewall prevents it from it spreading on to your computer.
