Didn't know about this. Absolutely ridiculous, isn't prison supposed to be about reform? If you can't reform kids who grew up in bad environments, what's the point to it?

This is pure ignorance on the part of the judge. Would parole after a designated amount of time (under 10 years) be so outlandish?

I sense debate and discussion in our future.

I've never understood how a judge can decide that certain people under 18 can be charged as adults, it makes no sense to me. Especially in a situation like that, you would think that under those circumstances and how ****ed up her childhood was, she couldn't be tried as an adult.

before this gets moved to D&D

wow that is really messed up I feel bad for her that she didnt even get a chance at parole and has life in prison while other people who have committed equal type of crimes do get that. On top of that the murder victim himself was a despicable man who while may not have deserved murder should have derserved life in prison without parole.

I cant believe she has been in jail already 13 years almost 1/2 of her life and not have her case revisited.

also not sure if the background music is appropriate for the video

Sometimes you have to wonder what it takes for a judge to get a citation... disbarred.. or whatever it is called when a judge gets suspended.

Only times you usually hear about are when they get caught jerkin it or having an affair...

California has specifically stated that reform is not a goal of our prison system. Our prison system is based on three goals, specific deterrence (keep this person from committing crimes), general deterrence(keep other people from committing crimes), and punishment.

This is a deep tragedy. What a bright young woman she is, considering her circumstances. She killed her rapist and her brutalizer; she did us all a favor and liberated herself and this is her reward? Ain't right...

    Based on this:

Specific deterrence - So the judge thinks that if she gets out, she'll find another man who'll molest her, abuse her, force her into prostitution, and lead her to kill said man again?

General deterrence - So the judge thinks that other young 16 yr old girls in similar situations actually (A) read the newspaper/watch the news and (B) think it's better to live a living hell getting molested everyday, and likely die an early death due to such abuse, than to serve a life sentence in jail.

Punishment - mentally unstable underaged girl who killed an absolutely despicable human being. Now I'm not for people taking the law into their own hands, but something's wrong here. Especially since plenty of drunk drivers kill perfectly law-biding normal human beings, and get a slap on the arm as a result.

As knote32 said, No discussion necessary. Wrong in every possible way imaginable.

I'm trying to find some more information about the case to try to understand the judge's mindset, but cannot seem to find any. The only info that google pulls up pertains to her youtube video or the campaign against juveniles being sentenced to life w/o parole, etc. For example, I want to know how and what she did to kill him. From the way she describes what the judge believed she lacks (moral scruples) and the story she told, something really does not add up.

While I agree with pretty much everyone else concerning the law, I believe we should consider both sides of this particular case.

Didn't that woman in Tennessee or Alabama, the one who shot her pastor-husband and fled from police with the kids, get out on parole?
