From the sounds of it, it's his elbow (that he injured in high school) that's been bothering him and is on the verge of becoming a chronic injury. Even if the Nets waive his physical, they're still getting damaged goods and they forked over a first-rounder to sign him. And even if healthy, with the duo of SAR and Nenad in the middle their interior defense is going to be as soft as cotton candy.
Swift, Marshall and now Walker are all off the market. Terrible timing for New Jersey. This may be wild speculation, but if this deal falls through, could it make Portland more willing to do a sign-and-trade with Damon Stoudamire? If the Blazers aren't gettting a first-round pick from the Nets, a first-rounder from the Rockets may be more attractive?
SAR is overrated, he's never happy on any team, and every team he's been on, loses!! SAR is suppose to be good? The Grizzles got better when he left and Pao Gasul came in. SAR couldn't win with Mike Bibby as PG! I still hope he goes to New Jersey with all the other overrated players like Jason " I can shoot, if I had a shotgun" Kidd, Half Man - Half Marshmellow Vince Carter and richard Jefferson.
I bet SAR still winds up with the Nets. The SnT could be altered to favor New Jersey more or they just sign SAR at the MLE. Neither SAR or the Nets have better options than each other at this point.
Does the physical just affect the trade and not the signing? Is there a chance that Portland gets stuck with SAR and his big contract?
If I'm not mistaken the Nets have already used part of their MLE to sign Jeff McInnus so their only backup plan is to shorten the contract or put incentives in it instead of straight guarenteed money. I guess they could go after Reggie Evans also.
Raheem doesn't have a big contract. I believe that Portland will have to keep him. There's not S&T. They signed him(S), but if the physical doesn't get approved they are not trading him(T).
If the Portland lawyers weren't asleep at the wheel, they would've made it a condition precedent to the signing that he pass the Nets physical. Or they would have made the contract voidable by Portland if he didn't pass the Nets physical. Either way, this isn't a novel situation so it should not be an issue.
No. According to the rules of a sign and trade, if they don't trade him within 48 hours of signing him, then he becomes a free agent again. http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#76
Thats an interesting turn of events, still I wonder if Portland would do a sign and trade for a first rounder and Stoudamire.
