I'm headed there this weekend and I'm looking for a Day Spa. That's right... I'm looking for a Day Spa where all my muscles and fat can be dealt with. So who knows of a good one there?
Also, just by checking hotel prices, they all seem to be in my price budget. Any particular favorites? I definitely want a hotel with immediate access to the Riverwalk. TIA.
we usually stay at the sheraton gunther. its about a block away but you can get a good deal usually and its a nice hotel. for nicer check out the menger (or at least go to the bar) - very historic
We usually stay at the Crown Plaza or the Omni's La Mansion del Rio...off the River Walk and close to everything. If you go to the front desk of your hotel and ask 'nicely', I'm sure someone will help you.
Thanks for the help, so far. Booked reservations at the Menger. Now I need a good spa recommendation.
I thought all the good "spas" were in Houston. Are you looking for Asian, Hispanic, or standard white girl?
Seriously. Outside of the Riverwalk, there isn't much to do in SA. Then again, there really isn't much to do on the Riverwalk.
There is a nice botanical garden near the Riverwalk off Broadway. Nice Greenhouses with 4 or 5 different type climates- built new in early '90's. Nice place to bring a date
Alright, just spent the weekend there. My thoughts: Per advice from this board we stayed at the Menger hotel. While this place has a nice lobby and is very historic, the rooms vary so widely, it is a joke. The first night, we were placed into a room about the size of a walk-in closet with a double bed! (I asked for a King.) The next day, I went to the lobby and demanded a king. We were switched to there, but upon returning that evening, we noticed maintenance was all over our room. I was livid, and went to the lobby again, and we were moved to a suite. If you're going to stay at this hotel, make sure you get a suite, or specify you want a room with a poolside view. The other rooms are crap.
Nah, my girl wasn't into the RW much at all. Friday night, we went to this bohemian style bar in the basement of La Havana Inn. It was alright, if a tad boring. Next day, we left the room to get some breakfast, only to realize that every freaking place stops breakfast at 11:30. Then she went to the spa in the hotel. After that, we went to the mall to look around and try to find some random fudge place she had been to before. After looking in vain, we went back to the bar at the hotel and had a few martini's. Then we headed to some steakhouse right called the little Rhine steakhouse. (I got a chuckle every time she would ask if we were trying to find the little Ryan steakhouse, and I had to keep saying "It's not Ryan, it's Rhine." Anyone who listens to Jim Rome should know why.) After dinner, we headed back to the room for the night. Sunday, we had brunch at the hotel, and left briefly afterwards because I wanted to try out Henri's puffy tacos. 30 minutes later we find it, only to find out they were closed on Sundays. Left for home after that. Overall, it wasn't too bad, but that first night in that tiny room along with not being able to find breakfast Sat. morning sucked.
I stayed at The Menger a long time ago with my friends. It's supposedly haunted. I was freaked out going to sleep because it was so pitch dark in the room. Did you encounter any ghosts, FFB?
