http://www.laptopstrend.com/reviews/be-wary-of-panel-manufacturer.html http://www.bcchardware.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4259&Itemid=40 My Samsung TV panel is from A = Australia I think, which isn't too bad. My new computer monitor panel otoh is from Chi Mei. You truly do get what you pay for. If I knew about the panel scam earlier, I would invest a little more money for a better product. **It's not related to just these two Samsung products. This is for all Samsung LCD products.
So how can you tell on your LCD TV. It talks about how to tell on teh monitor article but doesn't say where to look on a TV.
With plasmas they did something similar. They would put in different logic boards into different runs. So if you bought a certain Sammy plasma during the wrong time of year you got flicker or mismatched voltage settings. When you tried to order the part to fix it you would have a 1in3 shot of it actually fitting.
you really get what you are paying for. korean products are generally priced as cheap as the chinese products so why are we suprised that their quality is similar to the Made-In-Chinas?
I've always considered Sammy close to the top in terms of quality. This is a huge blemish on their reputation IMO.
Thanks for the warning! I've been intending to buy a LN52A750 next month. Now I'll reconsider. ?? Samsung's ain't cheap.
Damn, gonna have to look into this. I've heard something about only buying "s" panels inthe past, but I never understood the whole hoopla over it. I've got two 226bw's. EDIT: Both S panels.
Damn, I've been very close for months to get the Samsung LN46A650 or LN46A750 Touch of Color model. My brother-in-law has the LN46A550 and I always thought it looked good. I was leaning towards the 650 model because of the 120Hz refresh rate. Supposedly that will make faster moving actions (sports) look smoother.
Talk about close call!!! I almost bought a Samsung LCD but then decided to go with my 46" Sharp Aquos. I absolutely love my Aquos!!
Okay...... so... now I don't now which TV to get. I liked the specs on the Samsung LN52A750: 52" LCD 50,000:1 contrast ratio 120 Hz Picture-in-picture network connection (to play stuff on TV from computer thru network) at around $2000 Any alternative suggestions?
GOOD FOR 750: ====================== 750 has DLNA features (can stream audio/video/etc. over a home network) 750 can play video off of DLNA/USB flash drive. 650 limited to images/audio 750 comes with 1GB internal flash memory A650: 10-bit panel, 12-bit processing using a single processor A750: 10-bit panel, 16-bit processing using dual processors A750 allows PIP with digital source, A650 doesn't A750 has better TV sound due to the added woofers in the back (has an integrated woofer) 750's controls on the bezel have a red backlight. 650's controls have no backlight BAD FOR 750: ======================= 750 stand does not swivel (contrary to Samsung's literature) 750 has a "halo effect" that really bothers some people ------------------------------- I really like the idea of just plugging a cat5 cable into the TV and then being able to stream stuff to it from my PC over my home network.
Thanks for the summary. What exactly is this halo effect? btw, prices I am looking at show 750 closer to $3000. Where are you getting the $2000 price from? I am in market for TV around $2000-2500.
Hmmm... thanks Pretty good looking TV, that one. A bit more expensive. And, although I really liked that DLNA from the Samsung, I don't see any other TV's with that feature.
I was looking at it here for $1829 plus shipping: http://www.shopdigitalonline.com/productdetail.asp?productid=2666 But after reading this thread about the "S" "A" and "C" stuff, I'm wary of buying the Samsung online.
From avsforum (link): The 'Halo' Effect: Some people have noticed that the clear surrounding of the 750 bezel acts as a sort of fiber optic transfer for the screen. What this means, is that at certain angles, and in certain darker lighting conditions, the bezel will dimly light up with the colors that are on the screen. This appears somewhat like a 'halo' encircling the TV. Some people find this hugely distracting, others couldn't care less. It's up to you to see it and decide for yourself. This is a purely aesthetic effect as the result of the bezel design and has nothing to do with the electronic hardware. I don't think I would care about it. You may feel differently, though.
