According to ESPN: Latrell Sprewell, Timberwolves Spree is demanding a trade if the Wolves don't work out a contract extension with him. The two sides have been bickering over the amount for the past month, with Spree looking for a very unrealistic $40 million over the next three years. He's threatening to bolt the team next summer if his demands aren't met. The Wolves aren't crazy enough to cave in at those numbers and might want to start looking for a replacement. Spree has value because he's in the last year of his contract. A trade of Spree and Sam Cassell for Kidd and Mourning works under the cap and might be a last resort for New Jersey. The Nets could dump Spree and clear another $14 million in cap room next summer. They could turn around and find a third team for Cassell, hoping a veteran team would give up a young player or two for a premiere point guard. http://wirelessproxy.espn.go.com/wireless/espn/html/pocketpc?story=1919020 Yeah, I know Sam is a little bit old and isn't a good defender. But he is still one of the best mig-range shooters and one of the smartest player in the league. Shall we get him? Can we get him?
I doubt that little scenario they got bioling in their little pot there will work, but I would love Sam Cassell back in Houston. I would even go as far to say that Sam I am would put us back in the title hunt this year. If he can remain healthy.
Getting Cassell would guarantee us an NBA championship. He's the best PG in the league. Jason Kidd is damaged goods. Plus the only thing he can hit is juamana not open jumpers.
The problem with that is that all the Rockets have is T-Mac and Yao that any other team would want. Unless a team is looking for a couple of PG's who can't shoot too well, or a couple of overpaid PF's, CD won't be doing much wheelin'-and-dealin'.
Sam is looking awful so far this season, I don't think he'll be worth the risk and/or future money he's demanding. Look at his numbers this season, he's definitely on the down side of his career or so its looking so far.
I love Sam for what he did for us...but he's a whiner in a lot of ways...and is breaking down more often. Not worth it..not that we have any shot at him anyway
Oddly enough I was just thinking about this this morning and trying to think of a way to obtain him. Using some of the rumors that have been out there.... One way to get Sam might be to do a 3 way deal. Talk is the Wolves might be interested in Kidd. The Nets want to dump Kidd and his salary and start over. I know the salaries dont exactly work with these three players be perhaps others can be added to make it work but you could move Taylor (2 years remaining) to NJ for Cassell and Kidd would go to the Wolves. NJ does this deal to get Kidd off the books and gets Taylor, a PF at a NEED position for them. We move Taylor (because we have Howard) and get Cassell as a quality PG. And Cassell comes off the book in 2 years I believe. Cassell's mid range game would be a HUGE bonus to our team. Plus he would add the "fire" that is missing from this team. We need a "vocal" leader. Just a thought. Cassell would be a very good fit on this team.
yeah, but we need wins right now. I still hate that we traded SAM in the first place but trying to get him now would hurt us more than help. His 3P% is 16.7 right now...
He's gona come around trust me. & Spree is a damn joke! He acctuly beat K-Mart on my all time hate list!
Say what you will, but Spree would really give this team some perimeter toughness that weve been lacking the last few games. The guy is a fierce competitor and you know JVG likes his defense. Sam is a headsmart PG. There's a reason they've only lost twice so far.......
