The morning guy on 610 in order to stress a point . . . stated that Sam Cassell is as unatheletic but is a a great PG when the hell did Cassell become UNATHELETIC??? Man . . . wish we had another sports station 610 are full of morons and idiots who only care about the L'astros [1st] and Texans Rocket River
No, he isn't athletic. Steve and Baron Davis are athletic. Cassell himself said Steve has the athletic gifts he doesn't.
He isn't jump-out-of-the-gym athletic, but I wouldn't say he was unathletic. Mark Jackson is unathletic. John Stockton is unathletic. Cassell is pretty decent on athleticism.
i completely agree with the assessment. cassell just makes do with what he has and does a brilliant job. he does it with his post ups, and his deadly mid-ranger.
610 sports is full of Steve Haters and Yao lovers. Everyone on that Damn station is always hating on Steve. When he had the triple double they hated and when he won game three they still hated. DON'T HATE, CONGRATULATE
Cassell has said for a long time that he's the slowest starting point guard in the NBA. I think that qualifies as "unathletic"
exactly. Cassell is still pretty nimble Unathletic is Kenny Smith during the Rockets run [that knee brace thing] Rocket River
If you are a guard in the NBA, you are athletic. No questions about that. Sure, if you compare Cassell to Francis, Sammy is "less" athletic. However, to say that Cassell in general, is unathletic, is just plain silly.
that's why they hosted the "Steve Francis" hour his rookie season (even before they became the Rockets flagship) maybe they like Yao because he has improved a bitthis season, and they appear to diss Steve because he has regressed a bit this season and why is someone complaining about the local hosts being HOUSTON Astros and HOUSON Texans fans... ??! (maybe you should go to Dallas and here what real HOMER radio sounds like) - Jerry Jones will stop doing business with folks that criticize the Cowboys (see Dale Hansen)
PS - Sam Cassell IS "athletic" just like anyone that makes it to the professional level in sports is athletic (except for Matt Bullard and Pete Chilli-cutt) However, he is NOT an "athletic" player - his dominance comes from shooting and passing (not jumping out of the gym)
because the slob all over them no matter what [esp l'astros who they don't even have their games] but sh*t on the Rockets. . . no matter what Rocket River
Aruba77's post gives a good mesure of those players...although Mark was a lot quicker than he his now... Un-athletic doesn't have to mean void of *all* athletic ability. If that was the case, the guy wouldn't be in the NBA (Even Chris Duddley was "athletic" enough to be in the NBA! Remember him? ). Mark Jackson and Sam Cassell are good examples of what one can do with great ball handing, court vision, and good fundamentals. It shows how those things can overcome any lack of athletic ability one may have. The PG position is first and foremost a "thinking mans" position. That's why it so important rely in ones brain rather than their athletic gifts....Of course, the most coveted type of player in the NBA has BOTH: fundamentals and extra ordinary athletic ability. Guys like Payton (younger), Garnett, Magic, Jordan...etc... Back to Jackson and Cassell...I remember about 5 or 6 years ago Steve "Snapper" Jones said that Cassell wasn't necessarily quick, but rather he deceived his defenders with his "herky-jerky" style of play. Sam is deceptive. He doesn't waste motion. He changes speed. He knows how to use his given speed to deceive. This year, Doug Collins said that Mark Jackson is able to change speeds and use the stutter step to deceive his defenders. This is another example of how change of pace, patience, and court vision can help any player overcome faster defenders. "The Essence of the Game is Deception" - Leonard Koppett P.S. Anyone notice that Sam doesn't dunk much? He prefers the layup or jumpshot.
Interestingly you believe that Sammy is pretty decent athletically speaking but John Stockton isn't. That is simply fallacious and joke only an myopic mind could conjure.
