I'm about to be offered a position with a company...I need help with salary negotiation. I interviewed with 5 different people today. I interviewed for an entry-level position but, the area manager felt I was qualified for a slightly higher position. There is A LOT of work involved with the 2 positions and right know I know they're short staffed...the job requires a lot of travel to remote sites (i.e. the Middle East, Asia, Europe). I will receive the standard perks: 401K; full medical, dental, eyes; 2 weeks paid vacation after 6 months; 6 "personal days"....I guess that means sick days. I know the starting salary is around 50k + for the entry level...what should I be shooting for if-in-fact I am offered the higher position. My operating budget for the position is $10 million per year and I'll be managing unskilled labor and lower level managers. Any help!?! I negotiate on Monday.
Dude, for all that work, try 65+. I don't have half the responsibilities that you do, and also entry level and i'll make way more than 50+.
thats not a very good package for that much travel. You didn;t say what you would be doing but frankly the perks look standard to sub-standard and for the travel the salary looks pretty freakin low.
That sounds like a lot of work. What is the name of the position exactly? Well above 65 if your running a 10 million dollar budget and managers/employees below you.
$50k for all that work and responsiblity? That's just their lowball offer, they know you will ask for more. Definitely, ask more, especially if you know they are short staffed.
If they won't budge on the salary, dig for extra perks like expense account, company car, fully loaded laptop, signing bonus, etc, etc.
$10 million budget. You not only got workers underneath you, but other managers? And you get paid $50k? WTF?!
Well I read that the entry level is 50k and you are trying to be hired for a higher position. So I would aim for 100k for base pay and then meet in the middle. Are you going to be salary exempt or non exempt? Eligible for OT? Retention bonus? Per diem? Any other source of extra income besides your base pay?
That is an interesting package there. What parts of the Middle East are we talking about though? There are certain jobs that pay you $150,000 starting for traveling to the Middle East and only requires you to work 9 months a year I believe. Plus its like 30% of the work you are doing. So its depends on where you are going and what type of work.
This is a very good question to ask. Once you know the official job title, you may be able to better ascertain what the salary should be. I agree with the others, though: for the amount of work and responsibility you're describing, I'd be asking for more than 65K. You're looking at closer to six figures, IMHO.
Are you going to be working in Dubai in regards to construction and development? The job description sounds similar to that part of the world.
