    Saddam Threatens to Expose US
P.K. Abdul Ghafour, Arab News Staff

JEDDAH, 27 December 2003 — Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, now being grilled by American investigators, has reportedly warned US authorities that he will expose Washington’s “political games” and its behind-the-scene role in the occupation of Kuwait.

“Saddam threatened that if they continue to pressure him he will reveal startling facts — about America’s political games with his country — that would shock the whole world,” Al-Watan Arabic daily quoted a high-level European source as saying.

The source said Saddam had stopped answering the investigators’ questions and asked them to “give him enough time to clear his mind.” He did not elaborate further, the source added.

The source confirmed that the investigators approached Saddam with a list of Iraqi scientists involved in the development of weapons of mass destruction but Saddam told them that they were developing nuclear and chemical technology for civilian purposes, the paper said.

According to the European source close to US investigators, Saddam also said that he would ask the International Court of Justice in The Hague to try the United States for its crimes against the Iraqi people for allegedly using internationally prohibited weapons against the Iraqis during the last two wars against his country.

“If the Americans want to try me in a court of law, they should also try high-ranking international officials,” the source quoted the former Iraqi dictator as saying. Saddam has insisted that his statements are recorded verbatim, the paper said. The source said Saddam neither prayed not read the Qur’an, it added.

"Saddam also said that he would ask the International Court of Justice in The Hague to try the United States for its crimes against the Iraqi people..."

Wow...this guy's really been on the run and outta the loop for quite a while. We already bribed dozens of countries a long while back to help us get full perpetual immunity from the Intl Court.

"If they continue to pressure him."??

If he had anything to expose, wouldn't we have "pressured" him enough by now?

Iraqis want Saddam's old U.S. friends on trial
    By Michael Georgy

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - If Iraqis ever see Saddam Hussein in the dock, they want his former American allies shackled beside him.

"Saddam should not be the only one who is put on trial. The Americans backed him when he was killing Iraqis so they should be prosecuted," said Ali Mahdi, a builder.

"If the Americans escape justice they will face God's justice. They must be stoned in hell."

The United States continued to feel the backlash of its move to give Saddam prisoner of war status on Tuesday as thousands of Iraqi protesters called for his execution.

Washington's move has thrown some doubt over his fate after Iraq's U.S.-backed Governing Council had said Saddam would be tried in a special tribunal by Iraqi judges.

His POW status means the former dictator, accused of sending thousands of Iraqis to mass graves, could have more rights than a war criminal.

In street interviews, Iraqis said Saddam must be tried by an Iraqi court prepared to hand down the death penalty and examine his ties to past U.S. governments.

The United States backed Saddam in his war with Iran in the 1980s. During that time, he also gassed an estimated 5,000 Kurds to death in the village of Halabja.

A few years later Washington began branding Saddam a tyrant and an enemy after his troops invaded oil-rich Kuwait in 1990.

Cheney's Halliburton forged illegal $24 million contracts with Saddam Hussein from 1995-1999, and the Reagan/Bush administration armed Saddam with weapons in the 1980s. Bush Sr. gave Saddam written permission to invade Kuwait in 1990, giving the U.S. an excuse to invade Iraq.

Is this really news to anyone?

Yes, the Ostrich Brigade...and it will be news to them again the next time it's mentioned...and the next...and the next...ect.

Just like the fact that our intel was telling us pre-war that Saddam was absolutely no threat to us...or that we knew the intel we were quoting on WMD was bad...or the fact that several intel and diplomatic officials were complaing pre-war about the administration being very selective with intel to support it's desire...or that almost 95% of the globe being against our invasion can't be chalked up to jealousy and an arms contract or two...etc. etc.

( Actually, to be quite honest, I haven't seen the evidence to support the $24 million deal, and didn't know that the Kuwait deal was on paper, so shows you what I know...;) )

It is so seldom that you can agree word for word with the quote and the response to the quote.

It would be so sweet to see the entire Bush administration tried as war criminals and given life sentences. Then the world would be a happy place again. Humanity would take a step forward if that ever were to happen (as if).

No, but for completely understandable, above board, and not at all self serving hypocritical reasons, we have spent a lot of time and money to ensure that we are immune from international prosecution...
