Well, you see, it all started at the start of the 2003 season.....

My dad, my brother, and me were standing under the railroad tracks next to the Crawford boxes, watching the Astros and the Rockies in one of the first couple of series of the season. About halfway through with the game, who comes walking by? None other than Drayton Mcclane Jr. I shaking his hand, and exchanging a few words with him. Well, that's where the bad part comes.

    What if...

What if I had roughed Sir Drayton up a bit? Maybe he would have thought twice, and sold his team to the Landry's group. Yeah, I bet he would have. So now, we're at the beginning of the 2003 season, and the Astros have a rich, and presumably free-spending owner. Who knows who he would have brought in since then...

Then, the 2004 off-season rolls along through. Carlos Beltran resigns in Houston, with no second thoughts. Roger Clemens signs for TWO years, for 18 million dollars. Lance Berkman never tears his ACL, because frankly, our new owners have given him a bonus just to sit at home on his couch all off-season. Now, as we head into the 2005 season, we are invincible.

    God, why didn't I think ahead?

I could have made us World Series Champs.:(

Sorry guys, I was feeling like Jose Canseco for a bit there.

    ;)

Joshfast caused 2 Astro errors on one play once back in 2001 from the 4th row behind the visitor's dugouot. They didn't affect the outcome of the game though.

Too bad you didn't have the presence of mind to "rough him up" a little, indeed. It's a great tradeoff--you get 90 days in the tank, but with Fertitta at the helm, the Astros probably sign the likes of Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens the following year, and they probably spend huge money in the middle of the season as well! Oh, wait...

I know a lot of you don't want Drayton as the owner any more. I will tell you that Tillman Fertitta is not the man that you want at the helm. He would have run the Astros into the ground by now. It would be Daniel Snyder-esque. Over pay for a bunch of players that don't really deserve it, never even make the playoffs, then blow up the team and be in rebuilding for many years. It would never be about winning with Fertitta.

There are only 2 people in Houston I'd love to see own the Astros or Rockets. Bob McNair or Matress Mac. I don't think Mac has the funds but he could easily put a group together (probably with McNair as a contributor).

Just keep in mind that the Astros have had more success under McLane than any other owner.
