You just can't ignore the kind of numbers Moats put up or how hard he ran -- good decision. Slaton is a 3rd down back anyway -- last year was a bit of a fluke.
Still think it's going to be something close to a 50/50 split in carries unless Slaton fumbles...again or Moats goes off for a couple of huge gains.
kubiak took him from 3rd round status, to king status, to no status. Yeah i agree with the 50/50 carries, and for now it's the correct decision, cant afford turnovers against the colts.
So a whole year was a fluke, but one game against the worst rushing defense isn't? I'm not defending Slaton, but I'm not impressed with Moats, isn't he the same guy we have had for what three years now and has done nothing worth mentioning before. Maybe he is that guy we need, but we will have to wait and see. Slaton's talent is needed on the field, especially with OD gone for the year, Steve will need to be relied upon heavily I think on those passing plays. Hopefully he can find a way to fix his butterfingers problem.
I picked up Moats just in case and I'm starting him now.. Before last week's stinker, Slaton was doing really well fantasy-wise since week 3. Sucks for my fantasy team too but hopefully Moats can salvage my team.
Come on Moats. The Texans need you to come up big in this game. And more importantly, my fantasy team needs you to come up big!
Other than the fumbling, Slaton has been decent this year...he's not just a 3rd down back. If he can hold onto the ball, he is, without a doubt, our best RB.
I don't think a 1300 yard season when he was not even a starter week 1 can be a fluke. He was one of the few backs to put up 100 yards against a dominant Titan defense, and did so both games. It's that sophomore slump and Chris Johnson is the only one out of last year's class to not go through it.
denver has always had a good running game, therefore excelled in the passing. we're excelling in the passing game, but not the running game. maybe a change is good, i mean slaton wasn't doing much anyways, change if change is needed. i agree with Kubiak here, and predict another 100 yard game from Moats.
That's a bit like saying "other than completing his passes, David Carr was a decent QB". If you can't be trusted to hang on to the ball during a game, you're pretty much worthless as an RB. I like Slaton, I like his running style, and I think he has potential. But right now, the Texans are in a position where they can't afford to be making ANY mistakes, and Slaton is mistake-prone.
I don't think who starts matters that much. It sounds like we'll go with RB by committee, so whoever performs the best will end up seeing the most playing time. If Slaton makes some big plays, he'll earn his playing time back.
I agree. He also shows shades of Jim Brown, and a few hints (minus the killer instinct) of OJ Simpson.
the Texans have been making Slaton watch film on Tiki Barber to help him hold onto the ball.. tiki also had fumbling problems early in his career...
