Lay of LaRue. He is the epitome of what college sports is supposed to be about.

Can you say Jack Armstrong? Lettered in 3 sports at Wake Forest. Graduated with a 3.8 or so in computer engineering or something.

He goes to my church. I even got to check him once at the Y. I showed him the Rudy T "muscle lean" that Art Eckman used to crow about.

Seriously, Rusty LaRue is someone that you should be admiring not chiding. It's not his fault that the idiot producers at ESPN2 kept cutting into the game action.

He was the only consistent shooter those Wake Forest teams had to keep defenses honest in guarding Tim Duncan. Wasn't he also the starting QB at Wake? I can't remember.

I'm very much alive, thank you for asking Ziggy! Give us (and Rusty) a break will ya?

I don't think an intent to demean him deserves an entire THREAD.

Yeah, Rusty was the starting QB at Wake for a couple of years and was a very good outside shooter on those Tim Duncan WF teams. He also lettered in baseball while maintaining a high GPA in a demanding course of study and raising a son as a MARRIED college man.

Show some respect for a guy who deserves it. Is that really too much to ask?

I think most people are upset at ESPN more than Rusty Larue. ESPN's production team should be shot for the garbage they were doing during the broadcast of that game. There's game action going on and we're getting nothing but Rusty Larue and Tiny Aren'tchabald repeatedly. One interview would've been fine, but to repeatedly and incessantly go back to the same people, put them full-screen with a camera damn-near up their noses and to have chit-chat while the game is going on somewhere in the background is pathetic broadcasting.

Yes, this was only a pickup-type game, but it was still a broadcast being watched by fans of both teams.

    ESPN's broadcast sucked.

Larue is right up there with Barkley (injuring Drexler's knee), Stockton (every game), and Pippen now.

LaRue sounded like a genius compared to Tiny's idiot-savant recitation of the NBA marketing departments promo for the NBDL.

Arrogantly twisting the sterile canvas snoot of a fully charged icing anointment utensil He poots forth a quarter-ounce green rosette near the summit of a dense but radiant muffin of his own design.
    Later he says:

Rusty is a scrub's scrub. I could care less how many sports he lettered in or how accomplished he was in whatever major from a no-name school (academically at least). The guy does not deserve to get 20min solo air time over a game broadcast.

Good call. I'm real happy Rusty is so talented, but I wanted to watch a basketball game, not listen to Rusty's life story. Tiny was horrible too. ESPN blew it. The entire games was like picture in picture.

Fine. Gripe about the broadcast with the powers that be at ESPN2 but it is stupid and ignorant to demean LaRue.

He would hand you guys your jock straps on a platter if only given the chance.

His is a human interest story that should and could be recognized as such in the context of the game in which it was broadcast.

No it wouldn't hurt to interview him voice-over the action instead of split-screening, but again that's not LaRue's fault. Get over it. Do you really feel bigger by trampling on LaRue?

You high-flyers have such high opinions of yourselves. Appreciate some excellence even if it doesn't suit up in the NBA!

Just because this guy goes to your church doesn't mean that he should get that kind of coverage. He is a fourth of fifth string point guard who couldn't even survive on a horrible Bulls team. Yet, for some reason, he was interviewed for at least one third of the game. Almost the entire game was shot in PIP mode. That is pretty damn frustrating when you have been waiting weeks to see these guys play. There was no reason to interview this guy. He contributed nothing positive to the broadcast, and made a bad game even worse.

I bet I could beat him although that does not mean I am better than him. But I could surely beat him, Ive had harder competition. Id rather play him 2 on 2 though.

Don't get so worked up about the terms spare or scrub or what ever. Nobobdy is taking shots at Rusty on an personal level...just a profesional level. Rusty may be the epitomy of sports as a whole but not the NBA. What makes it worse is ESPN plays interveiws with Rusty as if more than about a dozen people are interested in him. Once again this is not a shot at Rusty on a personal level since he may be a fine upstanding young christian that had a 3.? grade point avg. The problem here is that I did not tune in to see an interveiw with I guy that I have never heard of and that will never effect my life in any way other than to piss me off for giving such long answers to stupid questions while I am being forced to miss the game. Face it, when compared to me Rusty may be an all star point guard but when compared to NBA talent he turns into Rusty LaSpare.

This is the whole point...he is NOT EXCELLENT in anything. You are viewing him in a special light simply b/c of his co-membership to your organization.
