For all of you Rush fans on the board, the Rush tour for this year was officially announced this morning (countdown was up on their website starting a few days ago for big news) and will occur roughly from late June to early October. They are calling this one the "Time Machine Tour" with the promise to play the classic Moving Pictures album in its entirety. This may also be the "B" side tour with promises to play some "B" side tracks from albums past. Rush has been writing new songs and recording in the studio. They have mentioned they will play some new, unreleased songs during this tour. Then, they will go back to the studio and are expected to finish/release a new studio album...followed by another larger tour in 2011. So, us die-hard fans get to see them twice! Check Live Nation or the Rush website for concert date details. Texas dates - Sept. 23rd (Thursday) - San Antonio (AT&T Center) Sept. 25th (Saturday) - Houston (Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion) Sept. 26th (Sunday) - Dallas (Superpages.com Center) I can't wait to see Rush again! Surf
I caught them on their last tour back in '08 in Austin. Didn't care much for their new stuff, but loved the old stuff and the 10 minute drum solo from Neil.
I've caught the last two tours thru Houston, don't see any reason to change that trend now. Thanks for the headsup Surf, last checked for tour info a month or two back and was wondering if they were coming back anytime soon.
Rush, Rush, Rush. What can I say about this group? Is there any albums that are NOT worth getting from this group? Nope. Even the 80s stuff has enough good songs on each one: Presto, Power Windows, etc. I'll always be grateful that this group stuck with what worked for them, changed a bit in the 80s but always emphasized musicianship and professionalism combined with passion. Sorry, I can't help it- love this group, individually and as a unit: Can't wait to see at least 2 of those shows!!!!!!!
No problemo. Us Clutch BBS Rush fans need to stick together....all 3 or 4 of us. They are opening the tour in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I'm seriously thinking about making the trip out from Fort Worth. The first date of the tour is always special.
Better include me in the group of Rush fans on this board. I've seen them at least 5 times (that I can remember).
I saw them on their All the World's a Stage tour in 77. General Admission w/Ted Nugent (LOL). I'm lucky to be alive and it wasn't just because of the crowd pushing.
I envy you. I would have loved to see them way back then. I didn't even become aware of their existence until '81 or so. I've made almost every tour since my first...Grace Under Pressure at The Astrodome for the Texas Jam. I remember all the eighth graders (I was in sixth grade at the time) wearing Subdivisions tour shirts at school the morning after that Houston show. I cracked ten Rush concerts seen (list below) last tour and this next one will be my 11th Rush concert. What a ride! Grace Under Pressure Power Windows Counterparts Hold Your Fire Presto Test for Echo x 2 Feedback / 30th Anniversary (front row) Snakes and Arrows x 2 Edit: Hmm...I seem to recall Roll The Bones tour as well. I'll have to go back to my ticket stubs (I have them all) and verify. It could be my 12th and 13th coming up.
I was 12 years old when they were on tour for Moving Pictures (in 1981), so I wasn't really able to go to the show - I would've needed an adult to take me, and I didn't know any adults that were going.
Ok, Surfguy- trivia: who were the other 4 groups/artists on the bill for that Texas Jam?? Hint: 3 were technically solo artists.
Slappin da bass. I hear you. I started playing guitar way back in intermediate school because of Alex Lifeson's inspiring guitar work.
I'm not sure I remember that. I know 38 Special played before Rush I think. I think Ozzy was there as well. Dang...who does that leave? I do know we arrived late so I missed the earlier part. I could cheat and look it up...but I really only remember 38 Special and Rush. I can see those pictures in my mind only. I have this funny memory when we were walking into the Dome for the Texxas Jam...I saw a white stick-ish looking thing on the ground. I pointed it out to this guy I was with. He picked it up and it was a joint. I also remember the section I was in...the losers were actually passing around a blow instrument containing cocaine...which I passed on. Sheesh. The 80s. lol. Now I'm going to cheat and look it up after typing above. OMG...I missed my one chance to see Bryan Adams. Doh. lol. Also, I missed Gary Moore. They must have been the early acts.
Dude, my Rush story is almost the same! First show Texas Jam for GuP and then every tour since. If they'd only break out Jacob's Ladder I could die a happy Rush fan, come on ya hosers!
Yep. Gary Moore was first, very good guitarist. Bryan Adams comes on, half the crowd's chanting to see Ozzy and Rush, and Adams starts berating the crowd. Not too smart. 38 Special- very good. Johnnie Van Zant running back and forth across the stage the entire concert, decent stuff. Ozzy- wow. Did he even play for 30 minutes? He was messed up from what I remember. Barely played a half hour. Forgot the words to songs, the usual Ozzy crap. Oh, well, we love/like him anyway. Rush was and is always top-notch, first-class, etc. Great. Weirdest festival ever, Texas Stadium: INXS Guns N Roses Iggy Pop Ziggy Marley The Smithereens Now THAT was an interesting mix.
