Our new strategy after the all start break.

Let's run and gun like Loyola Maramount. We don't play D anyway, so let's try to outscore the other squad, maybe the Rocks can now concentrate on 1 thing.

It appears that 2 is two 2 many, we either play D and forget to rebound or rebound and forget the D and based on forgetting to play D the only rebound we're getting is out of the net.

Dallas beats the scrub teams with this strategy,

This may alleviate little Stevie's migrane, which may be cause by the pressure to play D. The migranes would be gone instantly and our victory total would go up.

Any ideas will help at this time.

We can't "run and gun", because our point guard is leading the team in rebounds.

Without a good rebounding forward or center, there is nobody to get the rebound and make the initial outlet pass to our guards, who are SUPPOSED to be back on defense anyways to stop the other team's fast break.

I think Rudy goes with the "small ball" so much, because he wants more ball handlers on the court, which is supposed to lead to more fast break points. It hasn't worked, though...

Sure you can, Jason Kidd rebounds too, and he then RUNS it up instead of skipping like Fancy.

    :)

Plain and simple, the Rockets are a lazy team. We lose probably 70% of the looseball chances. Defense is all about effort, and we are a very poor defensive team. With that being said, the Rockets will never want to expend energy by actually having to sprint down court.

I agree with the original post, I would love to see the Rockets try to push the tempo, but the thing is the Rockets are one of the worst teams at executing a fast break. Bad passes and bad decisions are the main factors (one reason why Steve should be a SG, but that's for another thread).

I thought that Run 'n Gun was supposed to be the whole game plan this year? We should have led the league in scoring, never mind if we had horrible D. I thought that was the whole reason we rented Rice? Another outside shooter (who presumably could at least walk) would open up all kinds of penetration plays for the young ones, and take a few rebounds the guards would otherwise take. I thought that was the main idea of small-ball in the first place? "Catch me if you can..."

Oh yeah, that injury thing... Maybe next year. :(

I wouldn't want us to be a run 'n' gun team full time. You don't get far in the playoffs with that style.

At least we may have had a shot with the playoffs.

Denver Nuggets? No thanks. It didn't work then and it won't work now. If we don't play D we don't win.

Run and Gun won't win you a championship...it may get you into the playoffs, but no defense in the playoffs is a bad thing. This is part of the reason I think Dallas won't get past the 2nd round until they get a good defensive big man. Anyway, the Rockets are improving on the defensive end. With Eddie and Cato leading down low, all we need to do is teach Cat some D, and hopefully TMo will develop into a decent offensive player.

Don't you mean teach Steve some D. It is always the opposing POINT GUARD that lights us up for career highs every game. As for TMo, he needs to develop more than his offense, total waste of a first round pick.

Thanks to the Senior members responding, some intelligent basketball talk.

Our small ball guard lineup get's us killed. We made Monte Williams look like an allstar posting up Mr. Overpaid Norris.

Thanks for pointing out the Jason Kidd takes the ball coast to coast in a direct fashion without 10 million cross over dribbles and actually seeks out the open man instead of a Nadia Commenchi (sp. chk) gymnastic move in an attempt to score.

Somebody should check with our guards on what defense means, it'a appalling to see the team play such horrible D.

You can't run and gun if you're inbounding the pass so much. Our two scorers don't play consistent D and they can't run a fast break because they both want the shot.
