The GMs of both the Blazers & Bucks made claims to do something big in free agency right after the draft. If a trade does go down between them it better be a lead up to a bigger trade or involve high profile players.
So Magloire was traded for Desmond Mason and a 1st round pick and now he is going to be sent for Blake/Skinner/Ha? Magloire is one of the better centers in the league and even made 2 all star teams I think. And he is being traded for scrubs? Hilarious. If I am the Blazers I am all over that deal. Is that the best the Bucks could get for Magloire!?!?
Well I suspect teams may have the Bucks over a barrel because it's very obvious that he's on the block. Come on management, throw Howard and Head up for offer. They likely don't take it but it beats the Blazers reported offer. May aswell have a crack.
Has Bucks ever considered a trade with Rockets? How about Juwan Howard and Luther Head for Jamaal Magloire(age 28)? Rockets could definitely use his rebounding. Last season his stats are RPG:9.5; PPG:9.2; FG:46.7% and played all 82 games last season. Bucks need a PG and possibly a back-up PF since Andrew Bogut is mostly playing center next season.
Blake isn't really a scrub either. He's very good at running a team, has a very good 3pt shot, and gives a strong effort on defense. Pretty much every team in the league could use him somewhere in their rotation. Skinner's mildly usable as a 4th bigman. Ha is definitely crap so far. I don't think Magloire is that well thought of anymore either. He seems like just a placeholder center type. He is also a free agent soon and there's no sense giving up much for a guy that can leave right away.
no worries big boy especially since i notice you too are Australian! and we obviously share the common bond of having nothing better to do at 2am than sit at our PC's posting on messageboards.
These teams don't want Howard's contract any more than the Rockets do unless they can dump an equally bad or worse contract on the Rockets. Both teams have the PF spot set, too, with Charlie V and Zach Randolph. As for Magloire's price, the imple fact is MIL overpaid for a mediocre player. They thought he could be easily moved in a center hungry league for a better price, but they are finding that it's not the case at all. Reality strikes back at Larry Harris. Magloire's game isn't bad, but it's not that good either. He's a decent rebounder, but not a real good shot blocker and one of the league's least efficient bigs around (can't really make anything out of his post ups, and turns the ball over a ton-- 2 TOs per game for a guy scoring single digits is pretty bad) who also is not happy without touches. The main detriment to his value, though, is a matter of money. His agent has publicly said he seeks a max-type contract. No reasonable team is gonna pay that. So basically everyone wants him as a one year rental. A one year rental of Magloire for 8 mil isn't that attractive for teams unless MIL is willing to take on a (at least moderately) bad contract, and they are not. It really was a pretty stupid deal for them to give up a 1st rounder to get Magloire.
According to a columnist in Milwaukee the trade is essentially done. http://www.journaltimes.com/nucleus/index.php?blogid=24
I'm sure Milwaukee would have liked to get more, but they certainly got more than nothing. Blake is a solid point guard who will fill in nicely with TJ Ford traded. Skinner is a decent F/C who can play some defense and block some shots. Ha is a project, who may pan out, although after watching Yao own him repeatedly I have little faith that he will become anything good. All the contracts are expiring too.
I called the players scrubs mostly for emphisis. I like Blake as a solid backup PG and I like Skinner as a nice backup banger. Ha...he is still a scrub. But in reality, it is amazing how much VALUE Magloire has lost. Since the Blazers just signed Prizbilla to a 5 year deal, you almost wonder if the Blazers are taking a gamble to trade for Magloire now and then see if they can raise his value and move him again before the trading deadline for more value than what they originally gave out. Maybe the Blazers are willing to use Magloire as a carrot to entice a team to trade for him if they take back Miles or Randolph.
The Blazers must have a lot of faith in Jarrett Jack to trade away Telfair and Blake, while not bringing in any point guards to replace them.
They still have Dickau. But more importantly, I think they feel comfortable giving Brandon Roy some PG time as well. I agree though that moving Blake/Telfair puts a lot of pressure on Jack.
Looks like they can't hide Bogut from Yao anymore. Those games should be fun. Especially if they try Ha on him.
