jumping in on this. Send Courtney Lee back to Orlando, and throw whatever the hell it takes to Memphis (excluding Patrick Patterson) to bring in Mayo. Then make that trade for Gerald Wallace.
I don't see how this makes sense for Orlando, they bring in a player whose best attributes are low post inside scoring and rebounding, is a bit of a black hole offensively, not great at the outside shot, and is not a good defender? How does this complement their team (specifically Howard) at all? Seems like they are just trying desperately to assemble as much talent as possible and praying it works out.
Randolph is an expiring and they plan on bringing him back. They might as well get something for him. It is almost like our Tmac situation last year.
Orlando's terrified that Dwight's going to bolt to LA in the summer of '12, and they're willing to do anything to keep him pleased. They're heavy on the wing, and can afford to part ways with a shooter in order to add muscle to the frontline. Orlando's preparing for a war with Boston in the playoffs.
This will be an interesting playoffs in the East I will be sitting with a huge bowl of popcorns and watching the eastern conference this playoffs, for the first time.
Or it could mean that Chad Fraud started the rumor. They had Rudy traded last year, now it is Zach and the only player they believe we want to retain is gasol. Because they have no clue about this team.
Memphis is fighting for a playoff spot this year. That trade would just about assure they miss the playoffs. I don't get it. I know you guys would like to keep both Zach and Gasol, but are worried that Zach's price tag may be too high. I'm surprised you'd opt for Gasol over Zach, but I suppose Marc's position is a bit harder to fill.
Z-Bo and Howard won't mix. Very bad move for the Magic IMO. Probably catastrophic. They occupy the same space on the floor on offense. Most think Z-Bo would defer to the superstar. Bad assumption. Also, Z-Bo doesn't play off the ball well (or at all). Someone tell me why I'm wrong. I understand Orlando's desperation because they realize their team is not a contender as presently constructed. But this is a giant step the wrong way. LongTimeFan, 30/30 teams in the NBA would opt for Marc Gasol over Z-Bo right now. No surprise there. What's strange is it seems the Grizzlies really want to make the playoffs and dumping Z-Bo would kill them this season (I think).
I agree with you about being concerned about how Zach and Dwight would mesh together. Both are low-post scorers, so I'm not sure how they could really co-exist. I think you're making too much out of the 'defer' part though -- ZBO isn't selfish. And Randolph >>> Marc Gasol. If 30/30 NBA teams would rather have Gasol (without considering $), there are a lot of stupid people running those organizations.
