Could be a hoax. If not, I'm sure an update will patch against it. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UKkbxCEzYJw"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UKkbxCEzYJw" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
OK, so he copied Zelda to a blank DVD...what was on the SD card? Oh well, the Dropkick Murphys song that video was cool, at least...
I have no idea what just happened, but I'm assuming someone may have found a way to copy games to an SD card to avoid actually having to buy them?
To elaborate on what they're showing, supposedly someone booted their Wii to a 'boot loader' on the SD card, and then was able to play the copied game.
With the way the camera goes out at certain times i wouldn't be surprised if they just changed the disc.
Seen this posted somewhere else and many people theorized that there could easily be 2 Wii's. One being shown (dummy) and one in hiding (real).
Or it could be real. From my experience with the PSP, it looks like what they are showing is a a disc with a copied version of Zelda on it. The SD card would have an image on it that causes a buffer overrun, and that is what allows them to be able to run the boot loader. It seems really quick, but the hackers have experience with several systems by now and have a pretty good idea what a system's vulnerabilities would be. Much like the PSP, the Wii's games being smaller would work against it for copied games. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo left their system somewhat open in a ploy to gain extra market share. There is a sizeable community of open source coders for both the PSP and the DS. You could see some interesting software for the Wii if this group was dedicated to building apps for the new controllers.
