Chad Ford reports: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draf...ry?columnist=ford_chad&page=DraftWatch-080625 Donte Greene: Kings at 12, Blazers at 13, Warriors at 14, Raptors at 17, Rockets at 25. Greene has one of the widest ranges of any player in the draft. Some scouts see the second coming of Rashard Lewis. Others see an inexperienced, one-dimensional jump shooter. I hear the Kings are high on him and the Rockets are trying to move up to get him. I'm all for it. I don't think we can move up enough to get Rush and I prefer Greene's scoring. Sure he's more of a risk, but I'm willing to gamble that late in the draft. If we only have to move up a few spots to get him then I say go for it.
Gotta love some Greene. JR Smith (Without an attitude) mixed with some Marvin Williams/Rashard Lewis in Rashard's body. Nice and lengthy, can play the 3 and 4, great shooter, can attack the basket.
Well, if we're really targeting Greene I think it's safe to say all Morey's talk of taking an experienced player with lesser upside was basically a smoke screen. That, or hell, maybe the Greene talk is the real smokescreen and we're still dead set on trading up for Rush or somebody like that. Who the hell knows? I'm just ready for the draft to happen already!
FWIW, Chad links these players with the Rockets as possible picks (if they slide for most of them): Greene, Speights (I like him too), McGee (eh), Batum (NO), D. J. White (like him), Ryan Anderson (ok), Jawai He talks about all the first round prospects, but doesn't link us to Thompson, CDR, Lee or Hickson, and I like most of them
It seems like for the past ten years all we've been doing is trying. I pray to God that we keep doing better now that Morey is at the helm.
TJ Ford, Dunleavy, and Granger is their "little" big 3. They have Foster, Murphy, Shawne Williams, and Diogu in their frontcourt. Ford, Tinsley, and Diener Diener impressed for them last season as a backup. 4th in league in assist to turnover ratio. In a rotation with Dunleavy, Granger, and Daniels their coach doesn't consider any of those guys as real SGs. That's what he wanted to add last season, a SG. Maybe Gordon or Rush?
I don't have a problem, but if the rox are targeting him, wouldn't it make more sense to just trade for Outlaw? I mean at least outlaw has done something in the nba and at 22 can still get better.
Members of the Rockets crew flew to Washington yesterday to observe a practice session with Greene...
I think if it came down to Batum vs. Greene for Toronto at 17, they'd take Batum. I think most teams would go the other way. I don't think either player will get to us. And maybe that's a good thing because neither one performed very well statistically this past year.
although i hate mentioning the name here . . . either one is like a rudy gay. a bunch of potential and upside but pretty raw, a history of underachieving, and a high bust risk. the difference is that i don't mind taking that chance at pick 25. i hear greene is VERY raw though. as in . . . we shouldnt expect anything from him for at least a couple of years. not sure that its such a good idea with only a couple of legit years left w/ tmac & yao.
If we draft White I'll seriously have to question my fandom. IU players are the only ones who can do that to me.
how different is that to signing gerald green if gg is someone the rockets are looking to add for next season?
At least Green has done something in the league. That's also my point. If the rox are facing that option, wouldn't it be better to sign green or trade for outlaw? Then they could draft a nba ready guy like Hibbert.
because gerald green is a known quantity. the #25 pick does not have to become donte greene. it is not a known quantity. it could potentially bring more value in other ways, like inclusion in a trade package, or being used on a player that might have an impact on the team sooner than donte will.
