Word is starting to spread that Davis could be a strong candidate for the Texas position should he be fired by the Browns after this season. I don't really want to get into the argument about whether or not Brown should be run off, but I think this would just be a sick fit. Davis returned the Miami program to glory, and in the process turned around it's image. Miami is no longer the academic and off the field joke it was when Johnson and Erickson were running things. That long winning streak and national championship a few years ago? Davis players. Portis, McGahee, Andre Johnson, Dorsey, Vilma, Wilfork, Winslow, Shockey, etc? All Davis recruits. Just imagine what a guy with a Florida recruiting pipleine could do with the built-in Texas pipeline? Kind of scary. This seems like a much better fit than say Spurrier.
I'd love it. IMO, Mack Brown only get's fired if we can get a guy like Davis or Spurrier, no less than a proven national championship head coach.
Spurrier Meyer Tedford B. Davis You can't go wrong with any of the above. Mack couldn't beat OU with the Patriots. I hope this rumor has a legit source and wasn't started by Joe Fan.
The rumor was started via a Pasquarelli (sp?) article on ESPN.com today. Davis is a much better choice than any of those others you listed. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=1899188 Don't be surprised, should Butch Davis be fired at season's end in Cleveland, if he is a candidate for the University of Texas job, should Mack Brown be canned.
This would be good for UT but I would still rather have Spurrier. Can you imagine Spurrier and Stoops competing for recruits in the same state? The teacher vs. the pupil. The RRS would be the game of the year every year with the winner having a serious leg-up on the NC. Kind of like UF and FSU in the 90's.
I would rather have Spurrier also. I think the RRS is psychological. Right now we exude p****. Only a man like Spurrier could change that. I heard he doesn't like Mack, what better way to stick it to him than by stealing his job, and delivering what Mack couldn't do in 20 years of coaching.
1. Mack Brown was assured by DeLoss Dodds prior to the OU game that his job was secure regardless of a win or loss. 2. As long as Mack is head coach at Texas, Greg Davis will run the offense.
Realistically, most fans expected to lose and lose big, as well. Which is why I bet on the Sooners and made $181 off the game. Next year, I will double my bet to $400.
Mack's wet dream is for us to run the table and play in the BCS. That would loosen the noose. Only problem is he's Mack and he will blow it somewhere. Toughest games left: @ Tech OSU A&M (rivalry game) If Jones doesn't fumble, Mack is looking at 2 losses.
I always got the impression Spurrier kind of put it in cruise control his past couple of years in the SEC. I'd rather have Butch Davis if he gets canned.
