Disclaimer: There's more to this rumor than Chad Ford. Glenn (Greenville SC): Enough specualting! I want to know where the Chad Ford "Crystal Ball" is saying Allen Iverson will play next season. (Your best guess will be sufficient)! Chad Ford: (12:29 PM ET ) In other words, you WANT me to speculate? I would watch Denver carefully. I think they're motivated to add AI and with the signing of Nene, can move one of their bigs -- either Camby or Kenyon Martin. They'd prefer Martin, but Camby has much more value. They'll probably need a three way deal to get it done, but I think it will be Denver or Boston that finds a way to get him. Normally, like you guys, I take whatever Ford says with a grain of salt. That said, there's an "insider" on the Nugs board I post on that really knows his stuff and keeps saying that Karl, Kroenke, Warkenstein and the rest of the group have been on conference calls trying to nail out the final details of a big deal for a few days now. I keep hearing Dre & K-Mart/CAmby, but I can not imagine that that's enough to get the deal done. The Nugs plan on playing Melo down low on offense a lot more this season, so this would help give us the inside/outside offense. We still need to sign two or three more shooters (depending on if Casey Jacobson is finally worth a damn), but this would certainly make the team more interesting. And yes, this is where you guys start inserting comments like "There aren't enough basketballs for Melo & AI on the same team".
Sounds great, but my worry is that Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson both enjoy shooting the basketball at the hoop very much. They have that in common - a love of shooting basketballs at hoops, even when that hoop is very far away. Is it possible to have TOO many people who love to shoot basketballs on basketball team? It is something to think about, as easy as that is to overlook. I would just hate to see those two stars mad at each other - it would be awkward. Just because it works for the Knicks does NOT mean it will work in Denver, even though Denver seems to be able to make anything work.
that could be a perfect championship mix IF allen and mello can co-exist with their big numbers, iverson proved he could defer to other players during the olympics so we'll see maybe. in my opinion iverson is getting tired of having to score 30 plus per game.
Also, my sources tell me that George Karl has, in the past, occasionally had some awkward moments with guards who do not love to practice with tremendous gusto. Apparently, George Karl actually was upset with Sam Cassell once, i think just for like a day, it was probably a misunderstanding, but still. I mean, I know, you say "well, he never had a problem with Ray Allen, Glenn Robinson, Kendall Gill, Gary Payton, Kenyon Martin and a bunch of other guys I am forgetting." But I just wanted to say that a friend of a friend told me that he and sam cassell once exchanged an unpleasant glance. Now, no big deal right? "It is only occasionally that he gets mad at his own players," you say. "And when it happens, it is totally professional and behind closed doors and all is smoothed out quickly and the teams never collapse afterwards" you say. Touché! But but get this: My other sources tell me that in private in strict confidence, Allen Iverson once told a close friend that maybe he did not love to practice all that much. Like, he does not enjoy scrimaging and running sprints quite as much as he loves playing in the actual basketball games, like the real games when the lights are on and the spectators are in their seats. Something about doing that - playing basketball when there are not thousands of people in the arena watching and cheering - he, according to my well-placed source, does not love as much. Well, he did not say it outright, but he did imply it. Not that it would be a problem, of course, because you know Denver- all is always on the up and up in Colorado during the winter. But still, not to be paranoid or anything, but I thought it worth mentioning. Again, please keep this on the DL.
Can you imagine the kind of relationship George Karl and AI might have? It could be the clash of the century.
A team led by AI and Melo is destined for greatness. Just look what happened to the 2004 Olympic team. Seriously I like both these guys, but Denver still wouldn't be addressing their fundamental weakness; perimeter shooting. Maybe they figure that AI and Melo can slash, and post-up, and midrange their way to success but we'll see how that works out.
there are.. but only during practice.. seriously that what a lot of people said when cassel and mobley joined the clippers.. but sam and cat had a lot more chemistry between them..
I don't know if that says anything at all. Ford just listed the two teams that are known to want Iverson, and leaned toward the Nuggets. Maybe it happens, maybe not. Yipee. Yes, there's more to the rumor than Chad Ford, but nothing out of Denver or Philly suggests that any deal is likely. Yet.
They also both love shooting snitches! This is a match made in heaven. They are absolutely perfect for each other. When they aren't playing basketball together they can smoke weed together and talk about how much they like cornrows, tattoos and diamonds.
I think New York would HAVE to be involved if somebody is taking on that contract. I especially can't imagine Philadelphia taking on Kenyon Martin. They already have a broken-down, over-paid power forward (and albatross contract) in Chris Webber.
i think he's talking about practice. you know, practice. not the actual game, but practice. hope that clarified it for you. well this is philly we're talking about, they're not exactly against having horrible contracts littered throughout the roster.
