This team is good enough to make the playoffs. A lot of people on this board is always talking about how good of a coach Rudy is. I say "PROVE IT" He has team back with 48 games left in the season and is only 7 games back for a playoff spot. There is no excuse for the team to not make the playoffs if Rudy is the Coach everyone claim he is. This team is whole lot better than the Wizzards and look what they are doing.

You cant win one , lose one. Win 2, lose 2. Im going to give this team a chance, they can really get up there if they show some heart. Nope, no playoffs this year... We have to go 30-18 the rest of the way (.625) just to get to .500, which is still no guarantee for a playoff spot in a stacked Western Conference. Our lineup is still too inconsistent to play .625 ball over that length of time. The only two people we can really count on to put up at least their season averages on a nighty basis right now are Steve and Eddie, and sometimes Thomas and Mobley. Plus, Utah is not going to lay down for us after such a horrible start they had. The one positive we have is that we played the majority of our games against the Western power clubs early in the season, so we could bounce back and get 35-40 wins
Easily at Utah? I look up and they're 2 games over .500 now. The way we play d they'll back door and layup drill us all night. Last yr Marshall killed us and Karl will show us why KT is a bench player. Can they win? If the play smart on offense and defense. Will they? We'll find out thursday.

Why, because they play better defense, better offensive system, they compete the whole game, better coaches. The Rockets waited till the last 3 minutes before they started playing defense with intensity. It's all about getting after it on the defense end and they can do it. Competing the whole game.

Guys, I guess I have to play realist once again. Honestly speaking, not just from a "fans hope" point of view, do you guys actually think we're gonna make the playoffs???? People we are about 12 or 13 games under .500, and its almost the halfway point of the season. That's a pretty big ditch we've dug guys. I believe in the Rockets and I am a die hard fan(unless some of the talk I've seen today about the Franchise getting ambushed by a certain legend in D.C.) but the playoffs are a real stretch and this is why I say that. It would take an above .500 record to get in, in the West. Period. Maybe 5 to 8 above .500. So all that talk about 30-18 just to get to .500 for the rest of the season is still not good enough. .500 ball and a break even record won't cut the mustard. Now its not that I don't think the Rockets don't have the players or talent to make the playoffs, I just haven't seen enough consistant play from anyone besides the Franchise. Mobley, Moochie, Wizard, Torres, Morris, and Cato have all shown flashes, but no one has shown anything resembling consistency. We would need these guys to show up for every single game for the rest of the season, and play up to there capabilities every night, in order to go on any winning streak that would help for a playoff push. And I just don't see that. Honestly do you see the Rockets with there "only when the game is on the line" intensity, going on a couple of 7 or 8 game winning streaks????? 2 or 3 eight game winning streaks?????? Now be honest with yourself before you answer that question. Maybe yesterday's win will be the spark that sends them on a good winning streak. They haven't won more than 4 in a row since April of 2000. It's about time they put a decent streak together. We'll just have to see how they do against the beasts of the east, and against the aging cheats. Here is a bold prediction: If the Rockets beat the Jazz tomorrow, they will finish as a .500 team. Will that be good enough for the playoffs? Possibly...
Didn't they have a 16-4 stretch last year? Did they somehow manage to win 4 then lose for the entirety of that stretch and never win 5. That's weird.
Ball movement. Thats all we need to win. When we run alot of iso's we rarely win against bad teams and never win against good teams. Rudy, step up and make them run plays or pass. Just not so many damn iso's. Thanx
It's not going to be as difficult to get in the playoffs this year as it was last year. (i hope?) Here's how I think everyone will finish (current records in parens) 1. LA (26-6) Too strong 2. Sacramento (26-9) Too good - but lacks a real star 3. Minnesota (25-9) Great zone D 4. San Antonio (25-8) Duncan 5. Dallas (23-11) Good team, thanks to Cuban's money 6. Utah (18-16) I hate it, but they get one last year 7-10 spots will be fought by the following teams with near .500 records at end of season. Phoenix (18-17) (loss of Kidd will hurt them) Clippers (18-17) (inexperience and next long road trip are going to be tough) Seattle (18-17) (back in the playoffs if they keep Payton - lottery if they trade him) Houston (11-23) (Shock the league to make the playoffs - Eddie wins ROY) The others: Memphis - back to the lottery to get another talented rookie Portland - how can they be this bad with that much talent? Maybe the talent is suspect? Nah, couldn't be, could it Scottie? Denver - How can they be this bad with this much talent? Nuggs fans deserve better Golden State - cursed for being too greedy and keeping big men. So we have to go 30 and 18? Bah! It can be done - but we have to sit Walt or trade the fool.
Will somebody please get Rudy out of the league. You figure he's been coaching 11 yrs and still haven't figure out how to defend that pick & roll. These young guys on this team are losing precious yrs of learning the right way.
First, Rudy chooses to defend the pick and roll the way he does because he thinks it works better. Going off of the two championship years, maybe the Jazz's best years, I have no problem with his choice. The reason it didnt work tonight was Kelvin Cato. He couldnt guard a snail. I know Rudy doesnt tell him to just stand around before games, but he nevertheless does. Amazingly, this translates into some people thinking he his putting in a better year. Well, I guess he isnt on the injured list like normal. Rudy, I think, knows what he is doing. Does anyone honestly think that this team isnt at least 20-15 ish with a healthy (and not ejected) Francis for the whole year? We probably wouldnt have lost this game and you wouldnt be complaining about the method in which we guard the PNR. Francis is arguably the most valueable player to his team in the league. It is tough to have a good record when he doesnt play in many of the games.
