During the Olympics I really do think RT was in a no win situation. Obviously the team played very poorly but he didn't have arguable the top 4 players (Robinson, Shaq, Kobe, Grant Hill) and largely had some second tier all-stars. Yeah there were exceptions but I never expected Vince Carter to be the leader of the 2000 Dream Team. RT who is not a disciplinarian in the first place, could not even do that in the Olympics. His goal was to make a good impression on the players (recruiting for the Rockets) and win the gold. Let me also say I am neither a RT basher or someone firmly behind him either, but he was in a situation where he had to go with the flow. It was an embarrasement the way these guys played, and maybe the way RT coached, but honestly there was not much he could have done. Honestly I think at the least in future Olympics we may see Collegiate players again, or at the least College coaches or retired NBA coaches (like Tommy Lasorda in baseball). ------------------
I agree with you chuckie. Let the college guys play in the olympics. These NBA players cannot be coached and do not know how to act. Its time for the US to think about substance over style. ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
It's true that he was in a no-win situation, but he should have taken Carter aside and he should have told him some words about how to behave.
