Rudy T's Lakers are more fun to watch than JVG's Rockets

I think the fault of Rudy T was his desire to give too much freedom to his players on the court. He trusted his players to a fault. Take a look at Steve Francis. Steve was great player under Rudy T, but Steve was never a high basketball IQ player which caused him to make grievous errors that would lose games for the Rockets. However, his current tenure with the Lakers is really amazing considering the roster has just been totally turned over. The Lakers are overachieving in my opinion. They are fun to watch too. Players are shooting with confidence.

Then we go to JVG with his rigid desire to control every movement of his players on the court. JVG was brought in because Rudy T's freedom he had given to his players had brought many headaches to Houston. JVG has a definite footprint on the Rockets. He got Charlie Ward who will do whatever is asked of the coach. He's got JJ too. He has also managed to choke his talented players in the process. Mo no longer looks like a decent player. Yao is playing like JVG is always looking over his shoulders. Shooters are shooting like they have no confidence on their shot. Make a mistake, and there is almost always immediate criticism possibly with expletives.

Rudy T encourages innovation and imagination on the court. JVG suppresses it. NBA is a game played by men who were born with physical gifts and talents that most men do not have. There is so much of the game that is just instinctual. JVG is trying to replace instinct with reason.

    Nice post, Charvo.

The Rox are definitely playing robotic out there and the Lakers, in the words of Rudy's roomie Calvin, are "free-strokin'."

Shoot, players have no choice but to be creative in an iso offense. Rudy just got lucky that a talented mo-fo like Kobe is setting it up.

With that said, I'd take Rudy over JVG anyday. We're losing and we're losing looking like crap. At least with Rudy with that iso offense, the stars look good on the offensive end.

This is a good post. I dont feel connected to any of these Rockets except for Yao. He was originally a Rocket and still is.
    Thats it.

At least Steve/Cuttino/Kenny Thomas were Rockets cause they started their careers here and loved playing FOR THE ROCKETs. Sometimes I think Charlie Ward/Lue/Weatherspoon/Juwan dont care about the ROCKETS.

    I agree good post.

Sad thing is that Rudy would do so good with the high bb IQ players Yao and especially T-Mac. JVG was brought in to disipline Steve with his low bb IQ and we just ended up stuck w. JVG.

If Yao ever says in a halftime interview "I just want to play Yao Ming basketball", I will have to chuckle a little bit.

When Rudy was coaching Yao Rox games were more entertaining than under JVG.

Agree with Charvo but will add most teams look more entertaining than the plodding style that JVG likes.

Rudy is a far better coach than JVG.

JVG was brought here to get some disciplin in a low BBall IQ team, that team has changed now and you have a high BBall IQ that would benefit more from Rudy's softer touch.

Rockets brass are just making mistake after mistake these days.

Didn't you support the firing of Rudy and the hiring of JVG?

I did, and unfortunately I am having regrets. The Lakers looked like a cohesive unit.
