I'm not trying to fuel another rudy-lover/rudy hater debate again, but, I want to know how people who support rudy can honestly not be dissapointed at his coaching of today's game. as you know, i am very upset with rudy's coaching this season, and i think his coaching and substitutions has cost us several games. i will admit that i would have given rudy all the credit in the world if the rockets won today's game, but the fact is, they didn't. it is absolutely ridiculous that he left ming and francis on the bench the entire 4th quarter, especially in crunch-time. i know you rudy-lovers are going to say the subs brought us back, so they deserved to stay in, but that's crap. that's what reserves are supposed to do. provide a spark off the bench. they aren't supposed to finish games, and play through crunch-time. let your stars do that for you, through thick and thin. they should be the ones winning or losing games at the end. Rudy played with fire, and once-again, got burned. Let me ask you this: are any of you rudy-lovers at all dissapointed at rudy from today's game? and, if not, tell me: is there ANYTHING that rudy can do wrong in your eyes, or do you agree with every stupid decision of his unconditionally?
sorry, i was posting this at the same time as the other similar thread. but, this isn't just about tonight's game, and, people don't want to sift through 500 messages in the game thread to discuss this subject. but, feel free to lock it if you want, you're the boss.

I'm dissappointed we lost but I don't think the outcome would have been any different with Steve or Yao in the game. Rudy took a gamble and lost but I like the fact that Rudy at least trusted our second unit enough to stick with them. It was a vote of confidence that will carry a lot of weight going into tonight.
Can somebody tell me if there is a so-called perfect coach. There is no such things as Rudy-lovers or Rudy-haters. They only exist in your mind. Rudy has done VERY WELL this season. I would expect Rockets to have a record similar to Clippers, lots of new talents, but no team chemistry yet. The current standing has exceeded my wildest expectation.
why bother to say anything to you? It aint gonna do any good. Even if I was right, you would NEVER admit it...your hatred of the coach is so deep. So I ask you....why should I waste my time explaining fundamental basketball to you?
Some fans can not accept any loss and some others do not understand that a team can not win 81 games. Even if Rudy put Ming and Franchise in the 4th Q, I am 100% sure that if Rockets lose, these fair-weather fans are still gonna BASH Rudy like HELL. They are gonna say: Is Rudy out of his f#$@ing mind? Cato and Moochie are playing so well, and Steve only shot 1-12, and Rudy still put them back in the clutch time. Rudy is a f#$@ing moron.

The way Rudy think in the game is all wrong. "I mean, if I don't let them try to finish the game, it's almost unfair." What is that supposed to mean??? It's as if he had to let the reserve win or lose it because they deserve it since they help made the comeback. That's a bunch of bull****. Francis maybe the only one who don't deserve to be back into the game but Ming will have significant impact on the defense. The quotes by Rudy just tells me he is coaching to satisfy his players more than winning the game. If winning is really important to Rudy, he should have put Ming on Duncan and shut him down to begin with and the Rockets should have won. Rudy said he's not even consciously thinking about putting back the starters. Not even a second thought? Amazing! I mean i can understand that the reserve got the team back into the game after behind by 12 but when they keep jacking up shots and keep missing as time runs out, this should give ANY COACH in the NBA some clues that it is time to substitute. I figure Rudy didn't put Ming back cuz he want Ming to sit with Francis so as not to make Francis mad cuz he doesn't want to bring Francis back in since he's struggling. So he wants Ming to sit to compliment Francis. I think that's outrageous as a coach you should do whatever to win the game...that is you should put your best players in crunchtime situation wheather they struggle or not. Great players can pull out huge shot even though they have been struggling. I write this because i am mad so hopefully Rudy read this and don't make the same mistake in the future.
If we are going to the playoffs Rudy has to know a few things. One of those things is to know what the second squad can do. The only way to find that is to let them play at some point in time. They (the back-ups) played well and got the Rockets the lead briefly. Rudy let them have a chance. Unfortunately they didn't quite make it. I can live with it. I will complain if it happens again soon. If this was a playoff game, Rudy would not have left them in. He would have stuck with the starters and made them play through it, or just gave them a brief rest. This is a good, toung, inexprienced team. In the big scheme, we need to know what the top nine-ten players can do. It's the big picture.
I'm usually the first to ask for a coaching change, but Rudy changed my mind. He benched Francis. I didn't think he had the guts, but he did it, and now Francis will learn.
Ming was out because he is DEAD tired. Imagine being dead tired, and then facing Shaq? and then facing the alleged solution to Shaq (Robinson/Duncan)? Ming never asks for a rest unless he's dying, so Rudy has to make these calls sometimes. Against the Mavs, you'll see why this is a GOOD thing.
Read the thread "Observations from courtside at the SBC Center" by DaDakota. His and x34 analysis are much better than everybody here. Now argue with them at that thread if you dare.
Was Ming too tired or was he being disciplined by Rudy? Anyway, he played 25 minutes tonight, slightly less than his average minutes. Do those extra few minutes really make that much difference? We shall find out soon enough.
