Rudy T Show Well, I don't see any other threads on this so I'd better start one. Great to hear Smeg call in . . . ALL THE WAY FROM AUSTRALIA!! Best call of the hour too. I'll let you write about that one Smeggy. Anyhow, some important points: - talked about his assistant coaches and how they got to their positions. Says he likes guys who watch/cut tape because they have to digest so much basketball that they tend to have a good grasp of the game and how plays work and don't work. Talked about how he conducts meetings and gets everyone involved in the discussions. - talked about Yao Ming. Basically said that they are trying to get him more and more involved, but they aren't wanting to thrust too much at him because he's still learning. Talked about some of the things Yao Ming has been learning. Said Yao Ming was "crushed" after that sixth foul and it really took an emotional toll on him. Also discussed what will happen on Yao Ming's development, especially defensively. Said that foul-trouble has always been a problem with great big-men early in their careers and that as Dream, Malone, Sampson, etc. learned more during their first few years, they became better and less foul-prone. Comparison to Yao Ming, but Yao Ming is not as foul-prone as those guys were. - Talked about how zone defenses affect the Rockets' offense and the team's offense. - One point he was very passionate about was how the Rockets' are doing so much on the defensive and rebounding end of things, that this is very uncommon of an inexperienced, young team. Now they can focus more on the fun part of basketball -- offense. There was more, but I don't recall everything. This should be a good summary.
thanks Vengeance Eventually got through and the guy screening asks where i am from, I said Australia and he was like HUH!!! and extremely confused, the way he reacted surprised he kept me on hold. think they introduced me with something like 2 callers left and will go to Joe from Australia as he is probably paying $13 a minute and lets find out if he is fair dinkum and then says G'Day when i finally got on (damn the show is 3/4 advertisements) they asked where i was from and i said Adelaide, Australia, and they were all like Yeah Right I said i was long tim e rockets fans and listen to the show via some friends who tape it for me. I then said Big thanks for not trading Cuttino, and that means i can see him play when i visit Houston for my honeymoon in April there was a big silence and then something like man this guy is a REAL fan. then i asked my question, which without the nerves was How much do think that opponent defenses contribute to our offensive inconsistency or it more our own problems and learning curve?? Rudy had a massive response and will need some help with this as my pulse was racing so much i remember that much. Response from Rudy included *talked about it being a combo of both *zones have changed things *defenders are in passing and driving lanes more *shooting and FG% is not good enough *Posey struggling a bit at the moment in offense and the killer response We iso the least in the league now all in all great stuff, apparently they made some weird comment in closing, which has me convinced they thought i was a prank called
I missed most of the show but right when i turned on my radio I heard charlie say "we dont get calls from the souther hemisphere much" so thats proabably the weird comment you heard. ; )
I call China a lot, 3 cents a minute cheaper than domestic long distance, hehehe. Smeggy needs to get one of those pre-paid calling cards.
Smeggysmeg, I was listening to the Rudy T show as I always try to do in Houston and was surprised that someone called from Australia! Then I get on here to see what people are saying and was shocked to learn (well, guess I shouldn't of been) that the caller from Australia was one of our very own on Clutchcity.net! Congrats on getting through and I liked your question and the long response that it got out of Rudy. P.S. I am glad they let you hang on the line since you could not hang up and listen!
Didnt you ever see the episode of the Simpsons where Bart made a prank call down under and Homer got a huge ass phone bill and refused to pay it?? Bart ended up getting spanked by the Prime Minister of Australia as punishment. Smeg, better pay that phone bill to 610 or George Bush is gonna spank your ass.
Maybe he wasn't, and maybe he's right. Do we really iso as often as we used to? Even if we havn't changed, are we shure there aren't other teams who use isos more? By the way, how come a post up isn't considered an iso?
Rudy T. Show 02/20/2003 (MP3) CC.net represents all the way from Adelaide Australia. Very little about the trade process (or lack thereof). The Rockets never seriously entertained any deals (there goes the rumor mill), although lots of folks called CD. Coach spends almost an entire segment discussing our various assistant coaches and their roles. Pretty interesting stuff. 1 hour, 27.5 MB http://homepage.mac.com/echen/FileSharing3.html (Yes, I know there is another thread. If the moderators choose to merge, please use this subject and put the announcement at the top. People like consistency
Yeah...I ended up getting one of those yapJack* contraptions, which is a small box that connects to my phone at home, and I buy phone cards that give me 10 cents a min deals. I can call back to Houston for 10 cents a min. Kicks a$$. WIsh i had it a few years ago though. phone bills hurt when trying to keep intouch with family back in Tx.
