Rudy T should have deserved Coach of the Year. I was extremely disappointed that he wasn't even in the top three. Any coach who can mold a team full of first rounders into selfish ball-hoggers deserves the award. Rudy is such a greatmotivator, that his players always underachieves. His X's and O's are so awesome that the only play his peanut size brain can think of is isolation plays for dufus Mobley, Francis and Morris. Isn't it interesting how the "winning" teams actually share the ball and play team ball.

RUDY T FOR UNDERACHIEVING COACH OF THE YEAR.

I vote for that Laker coach guy? What's his name again???

He has the top two players in the league, and is only in the mid-pack in the playoffs? His team is on the verge of losing to a team that hasn't made it past the first round in the past 6 years. He has one of the biggest fan bases supporting him, and he still isn't the front runner for the finals (considering there are teams like Sac, San Antonio, and Dallas who will meet up with them in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.)

No, no, Rudy isn't the worst coach in the league, he is one of the best. If it wasn't for Rudy getting cancer, we would most likely be in the playoffs.

verse, you don't think that Larry Smith made some bad coaching decisions while he was head coach? Would you really put the two on the same level?

Who gives a rat's ass who is better? Since 99.9% of you are not affiliated with professional basketball in any way other than being a consumer, it is laughable that you post like your opinion on who is the best coach or who is the best player has any relevance. Most people (even most of you) knew that this team was a borderline playoff team when the season started. My irrelevant opinion is that we very well could have been a playoff team without Yao Ming. Without a training camp to design the offense around their soon-to-be best player and with his unexpected early flashes of ability, this was a drastic transition year. The offense never had a chance to gel or be consistent and there are players here that do not facilitate what will be our bread and butter gameplan. Things will be different next year, markedly so if Yao gets the benefit of a full camp and at least a little rest over the summer. This Rudy bashing is tired and uninformed. He is the coach so get over it.

LOL! Another round of excuses for the Rockets... The Suns would have beat us out for the 8th spot regardless, they wanted it more. Stop making excuses for the Rockets, last year was the injury and young excuse, midway through this year it was the were young and new excuse. Now its the if Rudy didnt have cancer excuse. Bottom line is, the Lakers went from deep out of the playoffs to a mid-seed. The Rockets struggled through out the year to hold onto the 8th spot. One week we had it the next week we didnt. The iny-miny-miney-mo type of consistency isnt going to cut it....

    Rudy's record this year

    35-30

    Larry Smith's record

    5-9 until we were eliminated
    3-0 after that
    8-9 total

To say it wasn't a factor is stupid.

And who are you that makes your opinion better than 99.9% of us? Are you related to Rudy or affiliated with pro BB in someway? Please enlighten us about your qualification.

Of course, Larry's first five games were a road trip at Seattle, Portland, Golden State, Sacramento, and the LA Clippers and went 2-3. Back in Late November/Early December, the Rockets went on a five game road trip against the same teams and went.......2-3! They had trouble on the road all season long...

The Rockets also had quite possibly the worst back-to-back in franchise history right after that retro night game. I'm sorry, but scoring 139 total points, losing by a combined 36 points, and shooting 30% over a two game stretch is anything but the coach's fault

    thank you very much.

to answer some of the questions:

larry smith was brutal and should not be employed in the national basketball association.

that said, i don't believe that having rudy there "guarantees" us a playoff spot. i mean, did having rudy there get us victories against the knicks, clippers, heat, etc.??? nope.

Also Larry didn't lose to Cleveland, the Clippers, the Wizards, the Bulls, the Knicks, etc, etc. No one ever responds to this point. Again, repeat it with me, the Rockets lost the playoff race to the Suns when they blew these games that they should have won while Rudy was coaching. Everyone knew the Rockets had a tough schedule closing out the season.

I clearly prefaced my opinion by saying it was as irrelevant as any other. Read it more slowly and you might catch it this time.
