http://espn.go.com/nba/news/1999/0804/39601.html Wednesday, March 14, 2001 Rockets coach fined $5,000 ESPN.com news services NEW YORK – The NBA fined Houston Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich $5,000 on Wednesday for publicly criticizing referees after a loss earlier this week. The fine was announced by Stu Jackson, the NBA's senior vice president of basketball operations who had his busiest day yet. Including the punishments from the Sacramento-Orlando fight, Jackson handed out $70,000 in fines. Tomjanovich was fined for comments made after Sunday's 94-92 loss at Phoenix. In that game, the Rockets held a seven-point lead with 3½ minutes to go but squandered the advantage. In a profanity-laced tirade afterwards, Tomjanovich singled out referees Bob Delaney and Derek Richardson, whom he claimed cost Houston a win against Dallas the previous week. "Those two guys got us again," Tomjanovich said. "I can't believe it, twice in a row. What a bunch of (crap)." ------------------ "Don't waste it. We're here."
That's awesome. Somebody buy him a Scotch after the game on Saturday. I'll get you back. ------------------ (===)
Get em', Rudy. ------------------ "There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another which states that this has already happened." Douglas Adams
"In that game, the Rockets held a seven-point lead with 3½ minutes to go but squandered the advantage." I love the way they phrase it like this, to make it seem like the Rockets and Rudy are in the wrong. Maybe they are, but my god those refs were atrocious. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. If you disagree, you are not a Rocket fan.
By the way, a little update on this. Seems the incident was a bit more intriguing. Rudy said during his show on KPRC that he was venting after the game and thought everyone there realized what he was saying was off the record. He said that one guy (he didn't say who) printed it and then everyone had to because that was their jobs. I don't know who reported it first, but it was probably the Chronicle. Rudy said he would be MUCH more careful about what he says in the future and he learned that nothing is ever off the record. ------------------ The Walrus was Paul.
Off the Record Jeff, that was a great post showing remarkable insight. ------------------ "Repression never did me any harm (I finally ceased to include "stop masturbating" as one of my guilt ridden New Year's resolutions, but that's a different topic)." Off the Record....COME ON !!! Rudy has been around long enough to know better. I think he knows what he is doing. DaDakota ------------------ If you like RTS games, check out this one. www.frontierwars.com coming soon to a PC near you.

Oh, they were fined alright, Toast... they were perfectly fine with picking up their paycheck after that disgraceful attemp at refereeing. ------------------ "all your base are belong to us!" "you have no chance to survive make your time!"
