If Rudy signs with LA, are the Rockets owed compensation? If so, what could we get for him? I'd take a 1st round draft pick (not lottery protected, lol). Shoot, we'd have to find some reason to root against him.

I bet the compensation will be that Les will save some salary obligation.

I'm pretty sure we'll just end up with a second round pick. That's what the Rockets had to give up to the Knicks for JVG, who was in the same situation with them as Rudy is with the Rockets now.

Isn't that because JVG Quit? Rudy was let go, and I am sure when he signed the scouting deal there was some clause saying that he could get out of it if he wanted to go coach another team.

I would hope they would let Rudy go .. The organization owes at least that to him

The NBA doesn't have a compensation system for things like that. You are thinking of the NFL where teams are awarded draft picks as compensation for players lost or coaches who leave. It doesn't work like that in the NBA.

    Huh?

"..................In addition to working out a contract agreement with Van Gundy, the Rockets would have to come up with compensation to the Knicks, likely a future draft pick. Van Gundy is under contract with the Knicks through July 31."

That's because Van Gundy didn't have a clause in his deal that voided his contract when he joined another team. I guarantee when they re-worked Rudy's deal that they included a clause to let them out of the deal if he accepted another offer.

There is no stipulation in the NBA that requires a pick or anything else be sent in these situations. That is a matter decided between the teams involved, but it is usually not a draft pick. It is almost always cash.
