Just a short mention of what Rudy is up to from this article: http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/sports/15102534.htm Former Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and Team USA coach Rudy Tomjanovich has been put in charge of scouting.
Nice to hear. I always heard Rudy had an eye for talent. He's doing very well over in LA and I hope, one day, he heads our scouting department here for the Rockets. 2006-2007: The Revival of the Rockets 2006-07 Houston Rockets PG: Rafer Alston, John Lucas III, V-Spanoulis SG: Tracy McGrady, Kirk Snyder, Luther Head SF: Shane Battier, Steve Novak PF: Juwan Howard, Chuck Hayes, Ryan Bowen C: Yao Ming, Dikembe Mutombo HOUSTON COMETS BASKETBALL Record: 14-11, 3rd in Western Conference President of the Dawn Staley Fan Club
That is one of the most uninformed statements I have ever seen on this board. I believe he is not scouting for talent, but actually scouting other International team's tendencies, strengths, weaknesses, etc. Rudy came up in this league (after retiring as a player) as an advance scout. Team USA would not have employed him if he was not skilled in this area.
Rudy had strongly recommended selecting Joe Dumars back in the 1985 draft when he was a scout for the Rockets. The only reason we didn't select him was that "Dallas had three first-round picks that year, and we figured they would take two big men and one little guy...if a quality big guy had been on the board, word was that the Pistons would take him...but the Mavericks used all 3 picks on big guys, and that left Detroit in the position of taking a guard...Dumars went one pick ahead of us." See, even back then, Dallas was messing things up for us!!! There are many other instances in which Rudy did a great job scouting: Robert Horry, Sam Cassell, Mitchell Wiggins, etc. Rudy is a good scout.
