Its funny you mention this heypartner because after reading RocketPimps thread about having the opportunity to write in a question to Mobes on the NBA beat, I said what the hell, I'll try it, and sure enough the only internet question to get through was yours truly. I asked Mobes if there is a diffrence approach he takes during a game when starting as opposed to coming of the bench. Mobes basically said he doesnt really, and starting and coming off the bench is all the same to him as long as he gets the damn minutes. Basically, I asked very lame question, thinking it would not be asked. Pretty cool huh? ------------------ [This message has been edited by ROCKETBOOSTER (edited January 10, 2001).]
More quotes: "Langhi is a gem....when we do get a rotation, I will be loyal to that rotation. We may change the line-up some, but I don't do that much. I've done it more this year than usual. I told Langhi that when I get him in there, I will be loyal to the rotation. I will go with it. I will run the course on the rotation. I do not want him to fear his minutes. When I was a player, I hated thinking a bad game would make me lose PT. With my players, I gotta let it run its course (the rotation). If a guy continues to fail, I will have to go to the next guy. Then I will be loyal to the next guy. "Langhi is fearless. I really like the guy." Man!!!! DaDakota! I can't help but read that as Walt might slip again to 3rd string. You better start hitting Walt!! HP, Rudy's stubborness to change is one of his biggest strenghts and also one of his biggest weaknesses. Langhi is clearly a better prospect then Walt or Bull, I would give him the minutes to develop, he certainly can not do worse, and he would add so much speed to the lineup. Langhi on the Wing on a fast break is MILES better then Walt or Bull still stuck at half court. LANGHI !!! Dakota I thought you were talking Darius miles there i had to read it like 4 times peace ------------------ Hanta-Force Paintball http://www.hanta-force.com
More importantly, with Shandon at the three and Langhi possibly backing him up is that possibly paving the way for Walt to be traded? ------------------
This has to be the best thing that's happened in awhile. Finally, cat will have all the PT he deserves to fully exploit a team's defense for 48 minutes. And now, that shandon plays the 3, he'll get more minutes as well. Langhi's an exciting player, i like what he does. I guess we'll just have to wait and see tomorrow nigth huh?.. too bad i'm in austin and i cant' catch the game. sure walt's not a bad player..but i agree..he'd be better used on some other team. I only like him b/ci know he can hit that trey. -elie17 ------------------ Oh.. so this is how you add a signature huh? coo coo.
DaDakota, I consider your statement about Rudy concerning his strength being a failure to be.... to be ... what? a enigmatic Rudyism. Rudy's style is to let the starters fail. AND...AND make the reserves work their butt of in waiting. If you just hand a rookie like Langhi the job, you are throwing a lot of growth variables to the wind. By leaving Walt as the starter and not playing Langhi, you can actually make the kid work his ass off while letting the starter fail on his own. DaDakota,,,it is all about precedence. Make the newbie earn himself in practice and let the starter fail in games before you make a change. don't be so impatient, especially with player management....impatience fails ALWAYS with player management. Rudy rocks!! [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited January 11, 2001).]
Hey Partner, I agree to an extent, my only reason for thinking it is also a failure on Rudy's fault is that it takes him FAR to long to make the switch. The Rockets have played more then 30 games, and it has been clear since around the 15th game or so, that Walt can't cut it. I certainly understand making the ROOKIE earn his chops, I just wish Rudy worked a bit faster. DaDakota ------------------ If Mankind evolved from Monkeys and Apes, then why are there still Monkeys and apes?
I heard that interview also, pretty good stuff, and I agree with what Rudy said. When Langhi came into the league, he had skills, but was very raw. Giving him time to see the game up close at this level, experience it in practice and live it in games has given him the chance to slowly become acclimated to this level of play. He still has some growing pains to go through, but I expect him to adjust over time. Rudy has done the right thing by giving Walt a chance to pick up where he left off last season and for a few games he did. Unfortunately Walt's style of play doesn't fit with the uptempo game that the Rockets try to play on a nightly basis, just like Bull's doesn't. ------------------ "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." - Gandhi
I'm really happy this has finally happened.Rudy must have finally decided Mobes is ready to be on the court with SA and Stevie for major minutes together. The chemistry is definitely improving and will only get better now.By putting Shandon at the three,it seems like Rudy is making a major statement.Could that so talked about deal be about to go down?..As Rocket Siv mentioned earlier Walt IS sitting and alas so is Dream.........Even though these guys(Stevie,Mobes,SA) are great rebounders for their size,I think when combined with statements made it looks like we have cut a deal for a big, studly frontcourt player. While I think Mo has a sweet game(and he sure is hitting the boards lately) and I wonder if that slobbering madman Cato will ever return too ,I say bring on that next piece...ROCKETBOOSTER....it's kickbutt to hear Mo talk like that, nice intensity and focus.I'm sorry I digress....We stole Cat in the draft, have him locked up in a deal that I thimk is also a steal(but works for Mobes because he has security)...Positive signs abound!! ------------------
Now Rudy has to address the center position. What do we do while Dream is out? Obviously Thomas has to go back to the bench; but does he put in Cato or Collier? Different styles and for the money they are paying Cato and his "experience", it would seem like he should be the one. However, his offense is suspect and does not contribute to the pick and roll which Collier is great at, both setting them and finishing with the jump shot. If Rudy is interested in going back to the press, then Cato should be the man, especially also if you consider our defense including shot blocking has been inadequate. It is really unfortunate that the team is going to have difficulty getting Rodgers some meaningful time since doing so will cost Thomas, Langhi, Bullard and Williams. In this situation the team should uptempo the offense and limit their offense to 15 seconds. Kind of like the Mavs. At the same time Rudy should increase the commitment to hustle defense. These strategies, which is possible with the players we have, would lead to more players playing and would tend to tire other teams and increase the chance for a blowout. ------------------
It just dawned on me: Does Rudy see himself in Langhi? If so, Langhi found the best coach for him that he could ever imagine. If Rudy is excited, I'm excited! GO LANGHI! What a sweet shot! A Shot of Rudy!
Hey Elie#17- I live in Austin as well. The bar inside Showplace Lanes on I-35 and 183 shows most of the Rocket games. ------------------ "Chucky who?" Charles Barkley
