Lock it if already posted, but Rudy Gay has played couple games in the summer league and has performed good averaging about 20ppg and 11 rpg shooting about 50% from the floor. Was very aggressive and many of his points came off put-back dunks and huge slams and 18' and 20; shots. If he consistently performs this well in the NBA then i will be really pissed for trading away Rudy Gay n Swift for Battier even though I like Battier for Rox but Gay could come out as a superstar and we could have got more than just Battier.
ok i clicked on this topic without reading your post, but i am going to guess what you said without reading it... he is doing good in the summer league... yada yada yada... i wish we had got more from the trade... yada yada yada... i will be pissed if he becomes a good player... yada yada yada now i am going to submit, and right after that i will read your post and see if i was right.
It's summer league not NBA competition. Dont worry we will forget bout Gay when we win the championship next year!
Good thing the Rockets got other summer league superstars John Lucas and Steve Novak to fill the gaping Gay hole.
i think its better if we move on from rudy gay. nothing we say or do will reverse this trade we did and thinking about how much more rudy would have been able to perform versus battier is rather pointless and now on the verge of being extremely annoying. yes ill give you that rudy has potential, but even if hes posting up 20/10 in the summer league, whos to say hes going to be putting up the same stats in the NBA?
John Lucas III averaged 23.4 ppg and 7.6 apg in the Toshiba Vegas Summer League. Chuck Hayes averaged 11.6 rpg in the same league. Maybe they should have been lottery picks too. Another notable summer league superstar from the past was the Rockets own Dan "The Man" Langhi. As it turns out, summer league doesn't mean squat, it is just a good chance for young guys to play some ball, get a little more familiar with some of the coaching staff, and get ready for training camp.
The greatest tragedy in the Battier/Gay debate is that the pro-Gay side keeps making weak arguments like this one further deligitimizing our whole stance. It's summer league. Those numbers are nothing to write home about.
Yet, Novak and JLIII are gonna be big contributors this season for Houston. So basically, Gay playing well in summer league means nothing cause well its the summer league BUT Novak playing well in the summer league means he's gonna be in the rotation for sure.
yeah of course, Vspan playing well in Greece and the recent stuff of Novak and JL3 is the BIGGEST NEWS in town. yet let's conveniently forget about that trade and act like it didnt happen
I never said that either. I personally feel all three of JL3, VSpan, and Novak will either suck or not even see daylight.
At least JL, Chuck, and Novak played agaisnt actual possible NBA contributors/1st round picks in the summer league-- Adridge, Roy, Livingston, Ager, Pavlovic, Gibson, Singleton, etc. The level of competition at the SPL in Long Beach was inferior, particularly in the two games Gay played. Let's put it this way, when asked to comment on his draft picks at the SPL, Jerry West said "they are going to make an impact in the NBA one day" Not now... but "one day"
update me on his performance when he's in line behind Gasol, Mike Miller, and Eddie Jones (and possibly lower) in the scoring depth chart.
