7-12 FG, 6-8 FT, 3 RB, 2 Assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks, 1 TO, 21 pts, 32:30 minutes. 21 pts on 12 shots - pretty efficient. Strong 2nd half and strong 4Q. I know, now he just needs to do it in the regular season. I hope Battier makes the Rockets purr like a race car.
He can do it in preseason, too... but how about against 1st stringers.. 11 of his 21 points were scored in the 4th, when we got the Delfinos and Flip Murrays on the court.
but we're supposed to wait two years on spanoulis, while we're in win now mode. you do work for the rockets don't you? its one thing to defend spanoulis because he isn't adjusted yet, but don't turn around and criticize a good game from gay the next day.
He's going to be a premier player in this league. Almost everyone knows that, and the Rox did as well, but they're trying to do everything they can to win in the next couple of seasons. But yeah, sorry Rox fans (including myself), if you thought this guy was going to be a 'bust' or even an 'average' player like Battier, then you will be deeply, deeply disappointed. He has an amazing skill-set, probably as impressive as Lebron's.
My hopes are still high that Gay will be just a decent player. I don't want to wish injury upon him, cus that would just be mean.. but I really don't want him to be good. I'm starting not dislike the kid now, just because he's not a Rocket. Does this happen to anyone else?
lol im hoping that its not wishful thinking that rudy gay turns out to be well..........gay, in terms of performance lol.
it really doesnt matter if he plays well or not, i would like to focus on our team's progress first and then worry about his progress later..
and I'm pretty sure if vspan went for 21 then everyone on CF.net would be splooging all over themselves calling him the next manu. gay had a good game. now we have to wait for the regular season to see how good he is against better competition.
For the last time, Rudy Gay was NEVER, EVER going to be a Rocket. If the Battier trade had not been there, the Rockets (after missing out on their Plan A of drafting or trading for Brandon Roy) had Thabo Sefalosha next on their draft board, AHEAD of Rudy Gay. Jeff Van Gundy said exactly that in an interview. So if you want to compare anyone to Battier this year, it should be Sefalosha, who should get sparse minutes this year in Chicago.
I don't know, a lot of Rockets fans are still appalled by the RJ-Griffin trade. If Gay is a star relatively quickly, it will haunt a lot of people.
LOL, if Gay turns out to be the second coming of LBJ, Les and the Rox will definitely be eating humble pie and June 28 is going to be a day of infamy in Rox history. I hated this trade but now I wish Gay turns out to be a bust.
I think for me is just the fact that he was actually wearing that Rocket's hat for a couple of seconds that did it. He was actually a Rocket (unofficially without the contract) and that would've been cool had he stayed a Rocket. I don't know what the Rockets were thinkging with Sefalosha.. I haven't even heard of him.. I think I was upset about the Super Mario draft with the Texans and then to suddenly have Gay traded away.. just couldn't handle it. I almost quitted on life.
The ocean isn't actually blue. It absorbs every color EXCEPT blue which is why it appears blue to humans. The Rockets didn't question Gay's talent ...they questioned his drive. So the Rockets aren't prooven wrong by an occaisional good game. They'll be proven wrong if Gay can consistently play at a high level. The Rockets didn't want another Stromile or Eddie Griffin. Given their inability to pick up "potential" guys recently, I support their decision to get a known commidity like Battier especially given that we have Yao and TMac.
the rockets have a few potential guys on their roster, they're counting on hayes, to play big minutes, john lucas, spanoulis. I guess they believe in keeping little potential and trading big potential.
You do have a point. Maybe not two years but thinking about cutting VSpan after 2 preseason games is absurd as well. BTW, I happen to agree with you about VSpan, he's not a rookie if you consider that he's played professionally for 2 years now, so asking that he make an immediate impact is not too much too ask. You see these posts about how obvious his talent is but I don't see it, he can't shoot, is an average athlete and is on the smallish side. Yeah, he's aggressive but that could translate into him being a foul machine, I hope he pans out but his ceiling is backup PG and not starting PG as so many seem to expect from him.
