Getting rid of their protector, RT, says a lot to the players. It let's them know that they are accountable, and that managment knows they underperformed this year. I want a new coach...someone like mussleman who will do whatever it takes to win. The Rockets players should be ashamed, it is their fault entirely that Rudy is gone, they did not do as told, and continually underperformed. Rudy has some blame though, he had every chance to be more of a disciplinarian, and he refused every time. Rudy...good luck to you, now Rockets team....perform night in and night out or sit your A$$ on the bench...no matter who you are... DD
DD - You bring up a good point - "someone like Musselman". That would be cool, but I don't think ANYBODY wants a young guy to come in and coach the team. Everybody wants an experienced guy. What do you think are the odds of getting someone young and dynamic like that? I'm not necessarily saying that's what we need (I like the idea of Larry Brown as coach - I'm a fan of his), but I'm just wondering if there is even a small chance that a younger up-and-coming guy would interview for the job. Larry Smith was interviewed by Golden State, too... so it's a risky proposition.
It's not fair to blame the players. Part of the coach's job is to motivate and discipline the players. Coaching is not just about D and O.
my thoughts are below. These guys are good, but they aren't the Lakers. Another lottery season is MORE likely now than it was two weeks ago.
I (almost) absolutely agree. This coaching decision is probably going to make or break the Rockets for the next 5 to 7 years. If they end up bringing someone in who the players cannot jive with, then there will be problems and we become Clippers-East. I still like George Karl. (but all of the Larry Brown discussion is making me reconsider).
I knew you would say something... but that's not a new thread... it belongs in the STICKY topic of http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57796 (Rudy Stepping Down)... Anyway... it's all RUDY, and no players involved... you think they had to do something with his health problems? I don't think so...
Heh heh...if Mr Mean mysteriously becomes our next head coach heads will role. I will also cancell my Clutch BBS season ticket.
Last report on 610 stated that Rudy "was expected to remain with the organization in some capacity, but that his exact role has yet to be determined..." I lobbied hard (Remember my somewhat lame petition?) since February, because Rudy became too stubborn, proud, or whatever to make the tough decision to confront the hell out of his cry-baby PG and SG over their selfishness. As a result, Rudy is paying the price, and yes the team has significant amount of accountability on their shoulders for this move. Having said that... I am THRILLED, because I have absolutely NO DOUBT that if Les pulls the trigger for a coach with a legit pedigree ie: Brown, JVG, Silas, Donnie-boy (my preference in that order...) we will not only make the playoffs, but "could" compete for home-court in Round #1 next year!! I admire Rudy for the kind of man he became, and for his loyalty and, service and accomplishments. I wish him good health, and good luck. Also, I truly believe that Rudy's continued presence within the organization will help with the transition, because Rudy is not the type of person who would allow himself to become a distraction, or to impact the team in a negative way. He would go away completely before he would allow that to happen. Rudy: Thanks for the memories and take care!!!
Players should also be accountable for lack of discipline. We don't need a bunch of jerks (see Blazers) on this team who do not understand the concept of team play (aside from Sabonis and Scottie Pippen). I think a coaching change was needed and I mean a clear out...all assistants included. Bring in a coach, who knows what he is doing...see how the players react to his style. If players do not exhibit some professionalism and listen to the coach and start running the system then trade them. This is why I think we need an elite coach. I still think we should trade Mobley, the guy is not a team player and could be cancerous to the team. Not to make this personal but I once played on a team with a guy like Mobley, a guy who was not the best player on the team but not the worst either but his personality and selfishness, we called him a "ball hog", destroyed the chemistry of the team. I fault the coach in part cause he did not have a dominating personality and actually named this guy as one of the captains of the team, which I believe was a horrible idea. Hopefully, we will get rid of Mobley and any other guy on the team who thinks about himself over the team's best interest of the team.
Excellent point. I was going to post something like this myself, so clearly I think it's correct . The one failing Rudy had was, like it or not, the players had ceased to play with accountablility. Two years ago we heard that he couldn't sit guys who didn't do what he wanted because of all the injuries, but there was the same lack of responsibility this year. Hopefully this will be a wakeup call. DD...on a side note, I just want to tell you how much I appreciate you in this forum. There are few posters with whom I disagree more politically, but unlike a few notable others you have consistently shown that you don't carry over political disagreement into other areas, or automatically disagree with what I say or how I say it on any issue ever since our political/idealogical divergences became apparent. I really appreciate that kind of objectivity in you, and based on your political insanity, I am surprised at it.
Well JVG is unavailable.... Well sorry SJC!!!! I was just bumping this great thread. Oh yeah.....I said I was going to stop posting until the board calmed down.
I thought you were going to stop posting for a while? Your posts are just like someone who is very confused thinking out loud. Why don't you do this: 1) Think 2) Post Thank you.
Because you played with a guy you compared to Mobley you want a professional team to dump him? Did the guy try to adjust his game like Mobley tried to do later in the season? Mobley's assists went up and he deferred to his teammates. The guy is adjusting. It's stupid to say Mobley thinks about himself over the team, he took a smaller contract to stay with the team, he did everything he could to help Ming fit in, he adjusted his game to fit the team, passed the ball more, worked on his defense (his defense on Kobe was awesome), and didn't b*tch and moan to the public. What on earth do you want the guy to do?
Well, I simply think that the team needs a good overhaul and it was clear the players were not responding to Rudy's style. Rudy did not want to step down, this was all Les. He told him to step down or he was going to be fired. Rudy did the classy thing, as always, and for that I admire him. MacBeth, I only argue issues, and never make it personal. I find that I actually agree with Glynch in this forum too...I must be slipping. DD
