Rudy T brought 2 championships to Houston..a great man indeed While we're mulling around till next season, can we just overlook the superhuman things Rudy did for this franchise and perhaps ponder upon what made him normal human being(not trying the man down but at least i waited till he 'quit') One of the worst for me..... Glen Rice, Maurice Taylor, Kelvin Cato.......a combined GAZILLION DOLLARS of cap room (Not even if he won the sixth man award..I still think Cato is paid too much)
Excuse me Les authorized those contracts or at least the latter 2 and he did it because he thought they would be part of one of the best teams ever assembled in NBA history. Sorry but that proves the man in charge has a distorted view of NBA talent including coaches. And by the way while Mo T may be overpaid, Cato may be slightly underpaid if you compare his salary to other centers in the League. He is better than quite a few centers who are making much more. It's supply and demand.
we're stuck with them.. no point saying much except hope they show that they're working their butts off to earn as much of that money as possible
Mo T occasionally shows flashes of brilliance and if he can stay healthy he might be worth the money. With a new defensive minded coach Cato might also start earning his money. So far I think both are overpaid but that could change this season.
Sorry, but I think Rudy was a barely average coach that Hakeem made look great 6-7 years ago. He did trade on that reputation well for awhile until Les finally realized it wasn't going to happen again. CD is joined at the hip to Rudy, and they pulled the trigger on some great deals and some stinkers, mostly out of desparation when Hakeem started failing. Admittedly, Rudy was an Icon when Les got here, but Les finally discovered the 'Emperor had no clothes'. I know this is heresy, but its just my opinion and evrybody has one.
mario elie sam cassell robert horry cuttino mobley in the second freaking round the trade for drexler the ability to attract: charles barkley scottie pippen (for better or for worse -- mostly for worse) rudy gets credit for the above. when houstonians booed, he took horry..he was right. when everyone passed up on cassell and mobley...he took them. he was right. no one got even close to that kind of value from any player taken in that area of the draft. he was a player's coach...that made it easy to attract veteran talent. and you can talk about who rode who to a championship all you want...no coach wins without tremendous talent. but that doesn't diminish at all the fact that rudy has two freaking rings. that's two more than larry brown...that's two more than van gundy...that's two more than dunleavy... i agree that it was time for a change....but show some respect. there have been a ton of coaches that have done a lot less with more talent than rudy ever had playing for him.
Do you know that whenever Rudy says he decides to coach again, there will be a long queue outside his door?
