http://www.newsmax.com/ChristopherRuddy/trump-healthcare-health-paul-ryan/2017/03/14/id/778568/ This seems like a reasonable solution from a conservative. Why not have medicare for all with supplemental insurance if you want it?
He stole that idea from me. But seriously... this is probably the best bet. We need to get employers out of healthcare as that's a large reason why wages have stagnated (employers paying more healthcare costs). We need to have everyone being responsible for their health by all having some sort basic, catastrophic coverage with a private supplemental plan if they choose. Don't want to buy coverage? Too bad, pay a very large fine every year. Folks can't control their genetics, but they can control their lifestyle. This system would cause those who require more healthcare due to lifestyle choices to pay more, which is how it should be.
WIth a 10K out of pocket yearly limit? Very few people at or below mean income can handle this financial burden. You can not get blood from a stone. The 10K will likely put the average person with "mandatory basic, catastrophic" health insurance into bankruptcy court.
I don't see that in the article or where I commented on a specific cap. Mandating everyone to pay into the system spreads the costs around as I wouldn't put that type of burden on folks. However, there has to be some sort of burden or the system collapses and becomes unsustainable. That is probably the current high deductible plan being offered but we can do better than that.
Because conservatives don't want that. This guy is basically saying the conservative fix is to abandon everything they want and go in the opposite direction and massive expand a federal program and shrink private insurance. It's like asking Dems who can't get gun control passed to just get the GOP on board by making guns free for everyone instead and then claiming victory.
This should be the Dems no 1 priority. Why focus on gun control. The Republicans will have a hard time repealing Obamacare which is terrible. If they had gotten single payer through which they should have it would be the greatest accomplishment since lbj. There is no one way once single payer is here the republicans will be able to touch it.
