I don't believe this, I'm sitting here looking at SportsCenter and they show clips of the Kansas City Royals at the Chicago White Sox, and a couple of shirtless punk thugs (and in this case they ARE thugs), just 2 on 1 beat the living crap out of the 1st base coach! And like an idiot the umpire just stands there, he doesn't try to break it up, he doesn't yell for help. The Royals players came out of the dug out and gave the two @sses a taste of Kansas City loving. Unbelievable.

I saw it too, but on ESPN News. The guys did look like "punk thugs." If they weren't drunk, they were definitly brain damaged.

OOO! They're showing it again. Yep, the 1st base ump was just standing there. They did say that he waas only treated for a scratch, so that's good.

They are waiting for a conference to see if they can possibly explain why this happend. (*cough*beer*cough*)

    j/k

By the way, the 1st base coach is fine thank god. This is crazy! I heard they might be minors. Still should have given them a good pounding.

EDIT: Ooops, RC Cola already posted about the coach being okay, my mistake! :) That was scary, they were shirtless and the coach hit the ground and they were just swinging. The Kansas City players hit that field RIGHT NOW and took care of business. What was up with the umpire and the White Sox 1st baseman (I think it was Konerko), just standing there while the coach took a pounding!? Gee, I wonder if beer had anything to do with this.

I will say they didn't look to big. Looked kind of like some teenagers who got too much to drink, or something like that. IMO, they were very scrawny looking. Maybe that's why they only managed to scratch him. :D

LOL! I probably could have taken those guys! But what a cheap shot, but what got into their heads!? Tom Gamboa was the coach that was attacked, and his glasses were broken in the struggle. Yeah real tough beating up on an old 1st base coach. Oh yeah, and nice security Chicago!

CHICAGO -- Two bare-chested fans ran out onto the field in the top of the ninth inning Thursday night and attacked Tom Gamboa, first-base coach for the Kansas City Royals.

After Michael Tucker grounded out to the pitcher for one out, two unidentified fans tackled Gamboa and began punching him. The Royals entire dugout cleared and their bullpen rushed in from the right-field bullpen, with several players jumping on the fans.

Punches were exchanged, but it wasn't clear which players threw them. Security came on the field and tried to break it up, but it was several minutes before order was restored.

The two fans were escorted off the field in handcuffs and a White Sox trainer attended to Gamboa. He had a large cut on his forehead, and was holding a towel to his face, but he walked off the field under his own power.

That could happen in EVERY stadium in the country. Security is a joke. Do any stadiums use a metal detector?? Sure, they check your bags but what's to keep someone from bringing in a gun or knife tucked down their pants?

I can't believe that umpire just stood there while that old guy got tag teamed.

Never mind about the teenager thing. I got a close look at one of them, and he was probably in his 20's, maybe 30's. Looked pretty scrawny, though. I'd be surprised if they could bench 95 lbs with those arms! :D

Saw the coach slightly after the attack. Didn't look too bad.

Excuse me while I take the Charles Barkley approach to retaliation

I really hope that the royals players beat the living crap out of those guys. Hopefuly they punched them in the face a couple of times. If those hulligans did not get face blows, that is a shame.

I don't like physical violence, but in this case, those guys deserve a beating because they dished it out.

100% right, it can AND has happened in a bunch of stadiums, it's pathetic. It seems like fans run on the field 4 or 5 times a year, and occasionally somebody attacks a player yet Bud Selig and baseball don't take this seriously because they would have to spend afew extra bucks on security. Disgusting.

It ain't just Bud. Stern and Tagliabue have the same problem.

That's why a I say these sports should shell out more money for security. There was a folded up pocket knife found on one of these guys. A pocket knife. These are billion dollar businesses they should use some of this money to protect their assets and human lives.

What kind of security system would you design that handles 60,000 people in a period of an hour or so? There's only so much you can do.

It didn't look like they got any solid shots in from what I saw (although the camera doesn't pick up the initial punch/tackle). The coach ended up on his back with his legs in the air trying to fend of the attackers. Both attackers seemed to have trouble keeping their balance.

Looks like a couple of 21-year olds just got drunk and stupid.

You don't need enough security to hold 60,000 people, you just need enough security to intercept people running on the field. I can get people running on the field and being tackled, but you can't tell me that it wasn't possible to get enough security to stop two guys from pounding on a guy for several minutes. Get enough security guards up and down the seating area where if a guy runs out on the field at least one of them can see him. I mean those guys were laying into the coach, and the Royals BENCH got there before security. You mean to tell me that there are so many people that players have to protect each other against fans and there isn't enough money to get enough guards to stop people from pounding a man!?
