Isn't it ironic how every one was calling gay a scrub and roy a super star and it turns out that roy is the franchise killing contract.

Gay this year has gotten a lot better, but I still think Gay isn't as good as a fully healthy Roy.

What can Roy do if he gets hurt? That is not under his control.

When has anyone called Gay a "scrub?" He's been hovering around the 20 PPG mark since his second year in the league. He's no superstar, but he's far from "scrub" material.

Well you can't control injuries and it wasn't Roy's fault that Pritchard gave him that extension knowing his knees were messed up.

    No wonder he got fired.

Nobody called Gay a scrub and Roy was a superstar until his knees disintegrated. What irony?

Um, Gay is not a stat scrub. LOL!

And Roy was never a superstar.

He was a notch below that level.

And what exactly do you think Gay would be if he tore up his knees?

    What????

I never posted anything about injuries.

I'm talking about the healthy Roy.

He was a good player but not GREAT. (LBJ, Wade, Kobe, etc)

Roy had an injury history with both of his knees prior to the draft. It was well known, and it was one of the KEY questions everyone had about Roy -- whether those past injuries would it lead to further issues or not.

If not for those knee issues, he would have been rated even higher. Though, he would have probably still fallen to No. 6 due to dumb managements of the teams picking before that.

You can always say that "there was no way to know he would break down after 4 seasons", but the injury history was there and Portland took him with that knowledge. So you cannot discount these injuries when comparing these players.

Having said all that, I still say you would have had to draft Roy. Shooting guards with legit size, good to somewhat above-average skills in every area, and maturity are much rarer than the athletic wings with great potential but questionable attitude.

    Hindsight, is always 20/20...

Depends what you mean really by great. Roy was not in the tier of Kobe, but he's more like a Manu, and was an incredibly dangerous player, as this team should know more then any other. Comparing Gay and a healthy Roy is hilarious. Just a damn shame about his knees, but yes, the injury concerns were there. But you have to take him, given that Gay is really the only one of the top 10 picks in that draft who's actually okay.

Just because Gay hasn't had team success doesn't make him a scrub.

Gay is not a scrub and Roy was on the verge of becoming a superstar IMHO, you don't score 40 points in the playoffs without having superstar talent.

Playoffs are a different animal, Roy did it vs Ron Artest and Shane Battier and Martin has yet to show he can lead a team there let alone score at that high a clip in that environment.

I like Martin a lot, he is an elite scorer no doubt but until he does it in the playoffs...no dice.
