So 3 days after LeBron hits 41, Carmelo does the same. Smells like another Co-award this year. who makes the all-rookie team? 1st team: James Anthony Wade Bosh Heinrich 2nd team: J. Howard Haslem Hayes Ford Kayman?
I don't think he had much of a chance before that. One of the Denver newspapers did a poll of the likely voters for the award to see who they'd vote for and it was overwhelming in favor of LeBron. (something like 40 votes for LeBron and 6 for Anthony) Outlaw's rookie teams look about right. I actually think Wade has had a better year than Anthony, but I'm sure I'm in the minority there.
If I had a vote, it would be for Melo. He has had just as good a season as lebron, but his team is fighting for a playoff spot in the West. Neither team would be in good shape w/o their top rookies.
Rookie of the Year is almost always a statistical race, and the stats are very close. Lebron PPG 20.9 RPG 5.5 APG 5.7 SPG 1.58 BPG .80 FG% .417 FT% .759 3P% .287 MPG 39.5 'Melo PPG 20.9 RPG 6.0 APG 2.8 SPG 1.18 BPG .51 FG% .427 FT% .770 3P% .325 MPG 36.4 While 'Melo leads Lebron in rebounds and all the major shooting percentages, those advantages are nominal. The 3 point percentage may seem like a lot, but Carmelo has a whopping seven more three pointers than Lebron this year. Lebron, however, has about 3 assists more per game than Carmelo, showing his superior floor leadership as opposed to just scoring. If Carmelo is going to be just a scorer, he'll have to shoot better than 42% from the field...Carmelo's assist/to ratio is also abysmal, even for a rookie. Denver does have a better record, but the Nuggets have dropped like a lead weight recently, while Cleveland is 12-8 since the all star break. Lebron all the way...
LeBron's gonna kill Melo. With all the hype he had coming into this season, the only shot Melo had was to average 25/7/4 this season while Bron only got 15/5/5. I think Melo knew this too. BTW, Hobbs, have you watched Melo on D? He's not stellar, but he's not crap either. He's routinely on the opponent's best player.
Yeah, I've watched him and he's probably the laziest defender I've ever seen. He routinely loafs upcourt and gets passed by his man. I know Denver fans disagree, but I've watched over a dozen games all throughout the year and he's horrible.
Well this season to me by far says SHARED ROY honors, the fact their both in differnt confrences helps too.
If Cleveland doesn't make the playoffs but Denver does it would be a croc if Anthony didn't get a minimum of a share. Remember, the whole argument for Stoudamire last year was despite Yao having a little better statistical numbers Amare's team beat Yao's out of the last playoff race. Statistically, the extra assists look good for Lebron, but this is cancelled out by Anthony's better shooting in every aspect (FG, 3, FT) and better scoring effieciency (PPS, AFG). Thus right now they are statistically unseperable. But both ROY (Amare, Lebron) may come down more to hype and bias than performance. Clearly the case last year.
No it's not, because Lebron has the SKILLs needed to play the pg. Bron is one of those players that transcends postions and that's what made him valuable.
assists are skewed because their roles are different on each team. James did play PG for a good portion of the season while Anthony never did. Anthony's main role was to score and score as much as possible; James on the other hand was asked to create as much as possible until the Ricky D and Miles trades which gave him the green light to become the score. But like as someone else mentioned if there was ever a time for a co-ROY this year would be it And it would be total BS if James runs away with the voting I expect it to be really close this year.
Co-ROY seems very appropriate this year, with Wade only a fraction behind (without his injuries he might have been a chance to get a 3 way tie)
LeBron would get my vote, but I wouldn't lose any sleep if he and Anthony share the award. They've both had spectacular seasons.
They did both do good, but LeBron is a better leader at this point. I know this is exactly the thing I was against when it was Yao vs. Amare, but LeBron could get his team to the playoffs and that's truly amazing considering it's the Cavs who haven't done crap of late and could be going from worst to playoffs in one season. He's also a few years younger and the best rookie out of high school ever. The ROY shouldn't be shared, it's all LeBron baby.
Before Jeff McInnis hurt, Cavs won seven straight games and in the 6th seat in the east. When he sat, Cavs lost 6 of 7 and fall out of top 8 spot. So when you give all the credit to LeBron for Cavs's success this season, think again. I will pick Melo as my ROY, or at least co-ROY. It is true Melo has the help from Miller, Camby (he is healthy, miracle) and Nene, but so does Lebron. He has big Z, Boozer, Tony Battie and Eric Williamsm, etc. The supporting cast is as good as Melo's, if no better, considering they are in the east. Cavs was no worse than Denver last season, they all had 17 wins last year, and yet Denver won 39 games already, 22 more wins than the whole season from last year, compared to Cavs 32 wins, only 15 more than last season. Don't forget Melo and Denver achieved this in a much much much tougher western confererence. I am just amazed so many ppl buying the hype media put on Lebron while Melo is basically doing the same thing if no better and yet people say it should be lopsided.
I don't understand using the playoffs as an indicator. Cleveland is 1.5 games out of the playoffs and heading in the wrong direction, winning only 4 of the last 10 games. Denver is closer at a half game out of the playoffs and 5 wins out of 10 games. But, they've slid pretty badly for a half-season now and likely will not be able to beat out both Portland and Utah for the #8. Neither team is going to the playoffs. Miami, on the other hand, has soared recently from out of the playoffs to tied for 4th place in the Eastern Conference and will even likely end the season with a winning record. They are 9-1 right now over the past 10 games. And they looked like a laughing stock at the beginning of the season. Wade has been a big contributor for them. I'm not saying Wade should be ROY, but if playoff seeding is the measure, Wade is easily the winner.
Nobody will consider making playoffs is the only criteria. First, personal stats, they are basically equal. Then team improvements, Denver > Cavs. If it is still can't be decided, finally comes down to who makes the playoff. If they both fail, how about co-ROY?
