Is this guy something or what? ------------------ You truly are the King of Kings. [This message has been edited by MontgomeryWard (edited July 06, 2001).]
If it weren't for that b*stard Pujols's continuing tear at the plate for the damn Red Birds, I would say Oswalt is front-runner for ROY. Hopefully he can continue to pitch well. I am starting to wonder why the Astros didn't bring up all these rookies a year earlier... ------------------ Rockets need power forward. Mo near now. Go near Mo. You can Run from the bet, you can Rave at the bet...but you just can't hide.
Alou and Berkman are the only clutch hitters on the Astros. If it were a playoff game on the line, I would only want one of them, and probably Alou over Berkman, at the plate. Bagwell and Biggio don't have what it takes to do it in the clutch. DaDakota ------------------ If you like RTS games, check out this one. www.frontierwars.com coming soon to a PC near you.
Roy Oswalt is unbelievable. Watching him pitch is watching a master conductor -- he just dominates the other team. He really is incredible. Hey, maybe Roy and Pujols can share the R.O.Y. award. I hope I don't jinx him, but I think Roy could still win 20 games this season -- heck, HE HASN'T LOST A GAME HE STARTED! Talk about incredible -- this guy should be our Ace for many years. ------------------ CC.net's most courteous driver Oh yeah, and I'm looking for a job right now, so hire me please [This message has been edited by Vengeance (edited July 06, 2001).]
Normaly wont respond to Newbies, but... The Astros don't like to rush young players. They just don't like the young guys in the majors. They usually draft college players, or use their Venezuelan Academy to bring talent along. That being said, our rotation right now is all home grown. Seems to work for them. Other notable pros from the farms: Berkman, Hidalgo, Biggio, Eusebio, Wagner, Mcknight, Halama, Garcia, Kile, Hampton, Nevin, Cami. All these guys started pro ball with Houston. The next great pitcher....Carlos Hernadez. 21 year old lefty with 4 pitches. Just developed a fastball in low 90's last year. Not quite the #s Oswalt and Redding put up, but 2 years younger. He is pitching in the Prospect game on ESPN on Sunday, for the international team. Look for him in the bullpen next year, or even September. Jason Lane, who leads the pros at 90 RBI, is also playing. ------------------ "Chucky who? I thought we were talking about basketball?" Charles Barkley
I think Hampton was acquired from the Mariners but I get your point. heheh Mike Nannini in single A is putting up pretty awesome numbers too. ------------------ First the Sopranos and now Eddie Griffin... thank you New Jersey!
Oh and don't forget Bob Abreu, he's kinda good or something. ------------------ First the Sopranos and now Eddie Griffin... thank you New Jersey!
I just hope the Astros don't trade the guy (or Reynolds and Redding, for that matter). Do I dare start to have some hope for the 'Stros? ------------------ "I have no regrets except that I wasn't up to keep Randy from getting on that plane." --Ozzy Osbourne on guitarist Randy Rhodes
I know I'm just a lowly newbie, but hernandez just broke the single game record for strikeouts that Redding and Oswalt had held at AA Round Rock. Plus with that performance, he passed Redding for strikeouts total on the year in AA. Lane is pretty damn good too. ------------------ Don't ask, I lost a bet. Roy has been compared to Curt Schilling by some so he has stuff! ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Guns kill squirrels than REDRUM to fools across the nation?
This crop of young pitchers is outstanding. Oswalt, Miller, and Redding almost make me forget how miserable Elarton is and how horrible Casa Ole was. ------------------ the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.
Oswalt reminds me of when Wags came up. Not that they have too many simularities, but just in the feel of confidence. ------------------
I have hope..in fact, I'm calling my shot right now. The Astros will win this division, and it really won't be close. They'll win by 5 games or more. I make no guarantees for playoff success...but I think the Cubs have already played their best baseball, and yet they only find themselves 4 games up. ------------------
