again. By IBF light heavyweight Champion Glenn Johnson in Round 9. He was losing the fight before the knockout. He needs to hang it up. I can't wait for Trinidad vs Mayorga next weekend.
Jones was my favorite fighter but he depended on his talent too much. I think he slowed down because of all the weight he gained from going to heavyweight and never regained it. Unfortunately he never had to learn how to box and was outboxed and outworked tonight. Farewell to the most talented boxer I've had the pleasure to watch.
He was knocked out cold, unconscious before he even hit the mat. I feel bad for Roy, because his career is over, but think of the money Antonio Tarver lost tonight, he was banking on a big money rematch with Jones.
where i was watching the fight, this guy gets up and shouts to the tv screen "roy you got knocked the **** out" then he sat back down..
incredible. i was gonna watch it...but then i thought, naw, it'll just be another roy jones knock out. i didn't expect it to be him who got knocked out.
WTF #1 I had no idea he was even fighting. WTF #2 How did he fall so far so fast? A year ago he was the best pound for pound in the world ~ now he's just a punching bag. Obviously he wasn't all that great when he fought Ruiz I guess...
Actually he was that good against Ruiz, the problem is he has lost some speed since gaining all that weight. Roy gained 25 pounds of solid muscle for that fight with Ruiz and now he is just doesn't have the power or speed he used to dropping back in weight. Roy had to lose 25 pounds of muscle which will take alot out of anyone especially a 35 year old who has been boxing for 25 years. Roy isn't used to being the same speed or just slight faster than his opponent, and this stage in his career he isn't going to learn how to box.
"You can knock me down, but you'd better put me cold asleep because when I get up I'm coming back," Jones said. A telling pre-fight quote from Roy. link ________________ When you drop a lot of muscle mass quickly you lose speed and power, but it isn't a permanent condition. Roy has had plenty of time to recover his drop in skill has to do with something else entirely IMHO.
