Ouch... Apparently he is going to try to play through it because Doctors said that he can't do anymore damage to it.
Look what McGrady did playing through it. He messed up his whole career. I would just sit Roy just in case.
Here's the link http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5078908 PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy has a torn meniscus in his right knee and his status for the playoffs is uncertain. Roy will miss Monday night's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder and Wednesday's regular season finale against Golden State. He will require surgery and will be out from four to six weeks. But he said he may try to play with the injury in the playoffs because doctors told him it cannot get worse. Roy is the Blazers' leading scorer with 21.8 points per game. He injured his knee on Sunday when the Blazers played at the Lakers. The Blazers have clinched a spot in the playoffs, but their opponent for the first round has yet to be determined
Now it's imperative the Blazers beat the Warriors on Wednesday while the Spurs lose to the Mavs the same day. The Lakers cannot be given what amounts to a 1st round bye.
Portland must really be cursed. First drafting Bowie over MJ, then drafting Oden over Durant. Then Oden and Prizbilla were out within weeks apart. They seemed to gel after finally getting a injury free big man in Camby, but now Roy is out! I know this is cynical, but I wish this injury had happened weeks ago so the Rockets would make the playoffs.
This is not good. After the Blazer's 2-1 Record against the Lakers the they may not be able to do anything like that if they are in 8th seed.
Portland has had bad luck, but there is more to this story than just luck. Brandon Roy had multiple (at least 2) knee surgeries before he even got to NBA. It can be argued that if he was completely healthy when coming out of college, he would have never dropped to the 6th pick. Portland took the risk and now they are paying the price. And it's not like Roy hasn't had any other injury problems either. The good thing for him is that he is smart and versatile so he doesn't have to rely on his athleticism too much.
He should be able to play through it fine, definitely with a hefty knee brace though. He'll probably go to his left and shoot jumpers more towards the end of games as the pain killers wear off.
I've had a partially torn meniscus, which isnt the same, but it can be pretty painful. I will be impressed to see how effective he will be, if he tries to play through it. The partial tear took about 6 weeks of physical therapy to heal.
wheter roy plays or not , he wont make much of an impact if the blazers play the lakers in fist round they will get swept
I hope the Blazers get swept and continue to suffer forever. I used to be big fans of that team, but their announcers have soured me towards them. They join the list of most biased blind idiot homer announcing teams in the NBA. Teams I can't root for because listening to their announcers on LP is insufferable: Boston Celtics Chicago Bulls Denver Nuggets Phoenix Suns Portland Trailblazers Utah Jazz Nothing wrong with being homers, but when it lacks professionalism to a point of whining on every other call, blaming officials, and only be able to see things from the perspective of what your home team did right and wrong and never understanding that 2 teams play...it just gets my blood boiling.
