I live in the KATY area and would like to know if you can recommend, if you've been or heard, of a good shooting range in my area of town so I can learn how to properly use a weapon of choice and possibly get a CHL. Would you have any shooting range recommendations? I saw a billboard about "Athena" on I-10 near Wilcrest. Other than that, probably Top Gun near Fountainview, I believe, is another one that I've heard about. Are those good?
I was about to say... EDIT - I go to Memorial Shooting Center near I-10/Gessner, and love it. It is a mom and pop shop and priced really well. It is far from nice or state of the art but it gets the job done. If you're on the south side of town The Arms Room off of the Gulf Freeway rocks. Top Gun is really freaking expensive, I did my CHL training there... nice facilities though.
No, I'm being serious, man. It saddens me that my wife too is a teacher, like yours, and that we don't know when one of these things can happen. I want to be ready to defend myself and my family and anyone else that needs it. I don't want to sit here and say later: "I wished I had a CHL" or "I wished I knew how to do that." I think I've been thinking about it already for too long. I had been discussing this with a coworker, who is an avid gun connoisseur, and we talk stuff out here before there is a misunderstanding of any sort. We're all human. Should I just go into any ONE range and try that, instead? I would like to know from the people who know. I might be an irritatin' fella to you here, but I will take stuff like this seriously.
i'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but i shoot shotguns up at the george bush park shooting range. they also have targets for handguns
Thanks, fallen. I thought that was an archery range! NO, Beaner. I want to learn. What would I be trolling? I have no reason to argue with anyone about this. This is sad stuff, man. I don't want to bring that stuff into this.
Sorry, but you can't deny the odd timing. To tell you the truth I've never been to a range and hope to go someday.
OK. I realize that. So who or what am I supposed to be trolling? I'm not doing it for attention. Other peps might benefit from this if they were wondering about it, too. I don't mean to offend anyone with this, I mean, I asked a straight and definite question. I'm not arguing with anyone about anything in the other thread, which should be informational and reporting of the sad situation, mind you.
When you first posted it was literally above the other thread. So we had: [BREAKING] School Shooting in Conn. at Elementary School [ROXRAN] Shooting Range Recommendation?
It's not like the OP asked where he can go shoot up a school. He asked a legit question. I don't know how this has anything to do with the shooting today. The shooter probably drove to the school too.. guess I need to be careful asking about drivers ed.
I apologize. I certainly don't want to make light of those events and no one does. What should I have asked for or said, then? Seriously speaking here. Advice, please. I know it's a volatile subject. I know it angers people and it won't go away, so I will probably NOT have another good time to ask this. At least I'm not asking in that other thread where people are disagreeing with each other. I wanted to ask because I truly don't know and would like to learn before I speak on the subject.
Got my CHL in 2008, can't believe it's been that long. I'm always strapped for these hatas out to get me.
It's like starting a thread "Know where I can get some good flying lessons" a few hours after planes crash into the twin towers.
Even if you don't want to own a gun, I recommend attending a class so then you can be aware of the regulations and rules that applies..
Meh... that's not even an option for us, The Real Shady... there are lots more gun ranges than there are aviation schools... heck, I have one in the West Houston Airport and I won't even ask for recommendation, since there are so few, but I can see your point. That's what my coworker and I have been discussing since I got this new job. I'm more interested in the proper way to do things, than to just go out there and buy a gun without knowing the laws and stuff like that. SERIOUS stuff. Relentless, did GM teach you? I used to work with a guy who worked there... I think. Thank you.
