My friend and I have been arguing back and forth which team has the brighter future. Could you guys help up clear up the arguement.
right now, it appears the Spurs do. they find great talent in strange places. and they have many more years of having arguably the best player in the game right now. they've already got the pieces together...so hard to argue against that.
unless we get rid of our coach, made some trades and have some good offseason signings then the Spurs have us beat. 1. they have a young nucleus with Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, and Brown 2. solid bench 3. great coach by the way I hate having to point all that out..
Our future lies in the hands of the Nursing homes our players will be in a couple years from now. The Spurs have young talent to build around and continue for a while.
How could you possibly be arguing this?? Clearly, the Spurs are more primed to win a championship this year, next year and the year after. You can't really predict beyond that, can you?
ummm nate...the spurs are better now and have a brighter future. they draft great players for the picks they have (ginobili, parkerk, udrih) and they found devin brown. plus they have one of the top 3 players in the league who still has many years left in him. so whoever was arguing the rox have a better future needs to be slapped.
Watch who you're slapping. Rose is 30 and will be making $7.1m when his contract expires in 2008. Horry is 34 and beyond his prime. Barry is 33 today and has a contract thru 2008. Bowen is a great player, but at 33 (34 at the start of next season), he's not going to stop TMac for much longer. Rasho will be 29 at the end of the current season and has been a major disappointment to the Spurs. His contract ends in 2009. Cases in point, on a very successful team like the Spur this is the +/- for some of their "impact" players.... Massenburg: -20.4 Rose: -15.0 Brown: -12.9 Wilks: -11.3 Udrih: -5.0 Barry: -3.7 Bowen: +1.0 Yes, the Spurs have Duncan, Parker and Manu. But Duncan is the only player of the 3 I'd trade for McGrady (and I'd stop to think about it). IMO, the jury is still out on what Yao's "ceiling" is. And that ceiling is what I feel is the basic difference in the future of the Rox and Spurs. And unlike most posters, I think that many FA's will appreciate the open looks they'd get on a team with McGrady and Yao.
SPURS: Duncan, Parker, Ginobili ROCKETS: Yao, Tmac After that it is all about the "role players." The Spurs tried for years to get a "side kick" to Duncan, but ended up with two decent sidekicks in Parker and Ginobili. Now they are singed for the long term. I would lean more toward the Spurs only in so much as I have MUCH more faith in the Spurs scouting of players to find cheap role players via the draft than I do the Rockets. Both teams have their "core foundation pieces" together. Now it is all about surrounding them with complimentary pieces. I have more faith the Spurs can do that than the Rockets.
Spurs. Solid Managment and a winning atmosphere go further than two or three individual players. I'd place my money on Pop and Duncan anyday. Evan
I would say the Spurs, BUT it took them a few years to get it right.... THIS IS OUR FIRST after the big trade.. But yeah the Spurs as of this year look better in for the future
