Larry Brown would be a great choice, but it seems his decision will be made more for his family and his family seems to prefer LA or Denver. There is nothing wrong with putting your family first. So I say lets just make Dunleavy our coach. He a proven winning coach, former Rocket and in interviews he seems to really want this job bad and would give it all he's got to make the Rox successful. I think Mike Dunleavy is the guy to take us to the next level!
Larry Brown won't go to the clippers. The "so called experts" say that, but as usual they will be wrong. Magic Johnson last night said Larry would go to the Clips. So, whatever... he's 62, i don't think he's looking to be in LA for the next 6 years to turn them around. More likely he wants to stay somewhere 3 or 4 years max. Houston is the place to come if he wants that. He'll be 65 in 3 years.
He only resigned day before yesterday. What did you expect, Brown to instantly jump on a plane for Houston and be signed by last night?
Do u just like that word or do u realy have arguments to back your statement?! After Brown,Dunleavy would be my second choice. -good Xs and Os -knows the organisation -can handle a tough crowd(SF,Cat...) etc... To tell you the truth,Larry Brown seems to good to be true,so I hope/guess we end up with Dunleavy. ALA
I really like Dunleavy too, but sometimes I wonder if he's a bit of a poor man's Rudy T, and that's why I like him as much as I do. He's a homer, so you gotta give him props for that. I think his coaching philosophies (as far as X's and O's) are similar to Rudy T's, but he's not quite the players coach Rudy T is ... he's kept headcases at bay in Portland. Still, he's had a very talented, very expensive team to coach, yet didn't ever win a ring, so I have my doubts. Dunleavy's probably my 2nd favorite behind Larry Brown, though.
He only resigned day before yesterday. What did you expect, Brown to instantly jump on a plane for Houston and be signed by last night? Well, if he was truly committed to the Rockets, then yes. In fact, he should have said at his press conference that he was resigning because he wanted to take over the Rockets job. As it is, he's either being disingenuous or isn't really interested, and that's not something I want in my coach. I haven't seen either Silas, Dunleavy or Van Gundy begging for the job yet either, so I think we should scratch those three off the list too. Mr. Mean has more or less asked for the job, though. He's dedicated. Let's get him.
Dunleavy is a better fit for the Rockets than LB. In fact, he's the ideal choice being a former Rocket player. His coaching credentials are superb. He won't wear out his welcome with the team as LB has done at Indiana, New Jersey and lately, Philly. LB, in personality and demeanor, is much like Bill Fitch was and we all know how the Fitch era with Houston ended.
quote from major: "Well, if he was truly committed to the Rockets, then yes. In fact, he should have said at his press conference that he was resigning because he wanted to take over the Rockets job". Essentially convicting the Rockets of tampering wouldn't have been a very loyal thing for him to do.
Last night, Marc Berman asked Dunleavy how the interview with Les went, and Dunleavy said "it went real well.. and he hopes he gets the job" I know thats not begging but its more than we've heard from Van Gundy and Brown.
Dunleavy said "it went real well.. and he hopes he gets the job" I don't want coaches who speak about themselves in 3rd person either. Scratch him off the list!
Dunleavy is a better choice than Brown. I think Dunleavy would be a much smoother transition from the RudyT years. Why? b/c Dunleavy is a player's coach. Unfortunately, in places like LA and Portland, he's been saddled with uncoachable players. Moreover, I like the fact that he seems genuine about wanting this job. That kind of sincerity is a plus, in my book. Go for the heart of a champion, not the looks. theSAGE
