Rox is a perennial bad team as long as Morey is the GM.

There are 3 ways to build a team: free agency, trade, and draft picks.

Morey is good with trade, very bad with draft picks, and try not to overpay for FA.

Great teams have building blocks from draft picks, and use trade, FA to supplement their key players.

We know Morey is not good with draft picks.

Let's look at the FA. In order to get a good FA, you have to overpay. Let me explain.

You will always overpay for free agents because of asymmetric information.

Players are going to be paid by their own teams if they are worth it and their own teams know it.

Those who are not getting paid by their own teams typically are not worth the pay.

As a result, to lure a good player away from his own team, you have to overpay the player as you have to compete with their own team.

Morey refuses to overpay for FA. It means that he won't get good players from FA. He will get marginal players though, which will not help the team.

Draft is the only place you find value because good drafts are always underpaid due to NBA rookie contract. Then Morey is not good at it.

In a nutshell, you get value from draft, over pay in FA, and hope other teams make mistakes in trade.

Rox can't get value from draft, won't overpay in FA, and only rely on trades to get quality players. Teams are smart, they are not going to give you freebie in trades forever.

As a result, Rox will be a perennial bad team as long as Morey is the GM because he failed in 2 of the essential methods in building teams.

Such a horrible grasp of the English language. When was the last losing season? How can it be perennial then since the last losing season was what 5 years ago?

This team sucks because some of the fans suck, that's my theory.

This thread right here is one of the reasons why the off season sucks.

There is no logic in what you said. Fans have no impact on how teams play.

The off season sucks is because the Rox is not winning, and there is no hope.

There's very few players in this FA worth their actual money. Not to mention, simply because we offer someone the max doesn't mean they'll take it.

I don't get the draft/talent evaluation negativity when there are a handful of ex-Rockets players in this last season's playoffs. Furthermore, we wouldn't being having this conversation about the draft if DMo and to a lesser extent TJones weren't derailed by injuries. You simply vastly underestimate luck.

We have been out of the 1st round twice in 20 years. We have made it to WCF once in the last 20 years. The reason they passed on dragic, parson, etc. was for "flexibility" in 2016. Its 2016 and we have to wait for 2017?

Oh that's right we can strong arm FA'S to sign here. Or our "history of bigs" makes people all warm and fuzzy.

Losing in the playoffs has many different variables to sit there and pout doesn't really help.

They've actually been a good team perennially. And that's between different eras, too.

Houston offered Bazemore more than the Hawks and offered Horford the max.

    What more can they do?

Nothing. Fans just like to irrationally b****.

I would overpay for Harrison Barnes. I don't care. He's better than what we have now and better than the bench warmers that got overpaid by other teams.

The Rockets under Morey have never really been a bad team. Last season sucked and yet they still made the playoffs...it is time to move on!!

As for FA, it takes 2 to tango...and who exactly are you talking about?

They traded for Harden and gave him his max (which another team didn't want to do)

They signed Asik/Lin to deals other teams probably wouldn't have signed them to

They signed Howard for the max.

They were going to sign Bosh to a max deal (or close to it) and match Parson's contract

They were willing to give Carmelo the max (or close to it)

They offered Bazemore more than Atlanta did and they are, according to reports anyway, offering the max to Horford.

Say Horford, doesn't take it - how is it Morey's fault? It's not like they can offer him more than the max.

We are about 1 1/2 days into the REAL offseason - there are still things that can be done to improve the roster - sit back and chill!

    You mean mediocre?

50% of the NBA teams make the playoff, and Rox can't get out of the first round. So there you are, mediocre.

By dictionary definition on mediocre from google, of only moderate quality; not very good.

So, it's taken you just a handful of posts to already change your mind from the Rockets being a "bad" team to a "mediocre" team.

So what you're saying is they've been good. Average. Middle of the pack. Not bad.

The only complaint I have with DM is, he doesn't build through the draft at all. He uses it to keep labor costs down, but he never trades up with the idea of hanging on to some young stud.

More like, "Rox is a perennial Good Team." Our complaint is that they don't get to greatness once in a while.
