With long speculatiuon on how Rockets gonna do on a new season with few new faces. What do we really need to be on a contender team? A true power forward and with Sura back into the line up, I think we really got a chance. With Yao, Battier and TMac on the floor at the same time, somone has to compliment and take advantage of their presence to form a real caliber team. Man i hope Alston will take his game to the next level as well.

I think you might just be on to something about us needing a Power Forward...

A true PF would be ideal, but we really dont need one. I think we should go after Cato if he isn't injured. We just need that body hanging around the paint and someone who can grab a board. He can even start for us, and then easily move over to center! He would be perfect.

I wouldn't be suprised if we signed Herrmann from the Argentina team. The guy is tearing it up so far, along with Delfino and Nocioni. He's bound to get an offer from an NBA team, and if we offer any player a contract, I'd want it to be from at least the reigning Champs

And regarding Herrmann, he's 6-10 240, range to the college/FIBA three with good consistancy, and a good defender in the paint. High motor with high talent is a rare combination, this guy has it.

The final piece is for all our current roleplayers (everyone outside TMac, Yao, and Battier) to be decent, and hopefully slightly-above-average players.

Alston needs to continue passing well and increase his FG%
Luther needs to continue the development he started last year
Hayes needs to do the same, getting more rebounds
VSpan needs to show he can play on an NBA level
JL3 needs to do the same
Snyder needs to have a good contract year
Novak needs to continue hitting 3s like he did in college
Howard has to hit a handful of 12-15 ft. jumpers
Mutombo needs to be good for 10 minutes

The above IS the final piece. We're not going to land a big name this year - our roleplayers have to show they're made of something.

How about Richard Lugo from Venezuela? Looks like a good rebounder and shot blocker at 6'10". Leads the Worlds in double-doubles.

You can't use WBC stats to conclude someone is a good player. On another country's WBC team, a player's stats will get amped because he's a bigger option. It's like basing someone's stats when they played on the Hawks.

To put it another way.. if you were just going by WBC stats, that would imply you would NOT take:

Dwight Howard, who is averaging 6 pts, 5 rebounds
Chris Paul, who is averaging 9 pts, 2.5 assists
Chris Bosh, who is averaging 5.5 pts, 3 rebounds

Yeah.. those guys will never make it in the NBA.. :)

Oops, CP3 is avging 6 assists, my mistake..

But some other guys you wouldn't take based on WBC stats are

Jamison, averaging 4 pts, 2 rebounds
Battier, averaging 6 pts, 2 rebounds
Brad Miller, averaging 3 pts, 3 rebounds

Normally the way to do it, is to include minutes per game and average it out to 40 as per International game. I thought most poster do it this way to put up their argument which I'm not saying it is the correct way.

There are too many counterexamples to this method, one being our very own Chuck Hayes, who plays very well with limited minutes, but sees a drop in production if given more.
