Has anyone here ever done one? There are some offers from Star Alliance and Oneworld which seem affordable. I am thinking about doing one either by buying a ticket and collecting more miles or using my Star Alliance Miles to do one "for free".

Either as part of the RTW ticket or as a side trip, I would be looking to go to the Seychelles. Now I remember that one poster here said he was moving there. I would be looking for very cheap accomodation, so if that poster is still reading the board and has some pointers, I would be very thankful. It would be during the months of July/August/September for one week, not sure yet about exact dates.

Also, if anyone knows how to find very cheap, yet decent accomodation in Tokyo, Sydney, Auckland, Vancouver/Seattle, Cape Town, I would be thankful :).

I think it was Prempeh that said he was moving to Seychelles.

Yeah, it was Prempeh, and he moved out there Super Bowl weekend. I do get to talk to him every now and then- don't know if his computer access situation has allowed him to get on the BBS or not.

Let me know, sir jackie, if you want me to ask him about those questions for you...I'll refer him to this link in the BBS....

    Hello all

Don't get much of a chance to get on here lately, what with internet access here still charged by the hour and all.

Things are going well for me over here so far, even tho I haven't started working yet.

    Sir Jackie

I can't tell you specifically which guest houses to go to, because there are a lot. But your best bet would be to look into the self catering guest houses...this way you can go shopping in the stores for your own food and drinks or get a takeaway or whatever. The major hotels are expensive plus the food and drinks are overpriced. IMO the takeaway food is just as good as what they serve in the hotels -- you get an Italian chef to cook creole food at 40 bucks a plate, or an 80 year old creole lady to cook creole food at 5 bucks a plate...you decide :)

By rule, there really is no "cheap way" of doing Seychelles...it is just a hell of an expensive place unless you got family to crash with. That;s the only way I am able to do what I am doing right now.

if you have yahoo messenger...you can give a shout...my SN is seynick32...I could answer any of your more specific questions thru email or whatever.

PS If you come, come single...island girls are so so fine.

I'm sorry, I missed your reply, Prempeh - I have added you to my buddy list and will try contacting you when you go online :). Thanks a lot for your offer to help :).

By the way, I have now finalized the routing for my RTW trip...unfortunately, I will not make it to the Seychelles this time, but I will stop by at some other nice places... :). Lots of flying in a relatively short time, but unfortunately, I will have to go back to work again at some point...

This is what I am planning to do between August and December...

If anybody has ever been to any of these places and has good suggestions on where to stay, what to do, what to avoid, I would be very thankful.

I am particularly interested in recommendations for a good hotel deal in Hawaii (I don't have a US based credit card, so it does not seem to be possible to use Priceline) and Rio de Janeiro.

    Wow!

I hope you like airline food.

    Sounds like a great trip.

Well, part of it (basically all the really long flights) are booked in business class, the food is usually ok there. I am a little bit concerned about United Airlines going bankrupt before I can embark on my trip because I have quite a few legs on their flights. Also, there are some lounges along the way which are supposed to have really good food (which will be free for me).

Are you using miles for this trip, or did you just make some travel agent very happy??

Also, curious why you're not spending much time in North America?

I partly use miles, partly I am making a travel agent (in South Africa) happy...all in all, it was not THAT expensive. I think I got a good value, although obviously something like this does not come free...

I have been to North America many times, but never to South America. However, if you count Hawaii as part of North America, I will actually be spending about three weeks in North America (one week in Hawaii, two days in Las Vegas, 9 days in Chicago (for my MBA program) and two days in Miami).

Any recommendations for a one-night stay each in Las Vegas and in Miami? I am looking for safe, clean and conveniently located hotels, but nothing expensive.

I've heard about you, SmeggySmeg, and you should be honest with Sir Jackie here.

The accomodations won't cost him monetarily, but the price might be too steep for him nonetheless. :p
